Affection Vs Rejection - Reeta Tiwari

Affection and Rejection are two fundamental human experiences that are crucial in shaping our lives, relationships, and well-being.

Affection:
Affection refers to feelings of love, care, and fondness towards someone or something. It involves warmth, tenderness, and a sense of connection. Affection can take many forms, such as physical touch, words of encouragement, or quality time spent together.

Importance in life:
Affection is essential for building strong relationships, self-esteem, and emotional well-being. It helps us feel valued, loved, and accepted, which is vital for our mental and emotional health.

Importance in school life:
In a school setting, affection from teachers, peers, or family members can:
  • Enhance motivation and engagement.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
  • Improve academic performance and confidence.
  • Develop social skills and empathy.
Rejection:
Rejection refers to the act of dismissing, refusing, or turning away from someone or something. It can lead to feelings of hurt, disappointment, and low self-esteem.

Importance in life:
Experiencing rejection can help us:
  • Develop resilience and coping skills.
  • Learn to handle disappointment and failure.
  • Refine our goals and aspirations.
  • Build empathy and understanding for others who face rejection.
Importance in school life:
In a school setting, rejection can:
  • Teach valuable lessons about perseverance and grit.
  • Help students develop coping strategies and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage self-reflection and personal growth.
  • Foster empathy and support among peers.
In a classroom setting, "affection" often pertains to creating a supportive and caring environment where students feel valued and encouraged, fostering positive relationships among students and between students and teachers.

On the other hand, "rejection" can occur when students feel ignored, dismissed, or excluded, leading to negative emotions and potentially impacting their learning and overall well-being. By promoting affection and minimizing rejection, We educators can cultivate an atmosphere conducive to learning, collaboration, and personal growth.

Positive experiences of affection can boost their self-esteem, confidence, and sense of belonging, while rejection can lead to feelings of loneliness, insecurity, and even depression. Teenagers often seek validation and acceptance from their peers, making rejection particularly impactful.

As for teachers, showing affection towards students involves demonstrating care, empathy, and understanding, which can strengthen the teacher-student relationship and create a conducive learning environment. This might include offering encouragement, providing constructive feedback, and being approachable and supportive.

Conversely, rejection in the classroom can occur unintentionally through neglect, criticism, or favouritism, which can undermine students' confidence and motivation. Teachers should strive to create an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued and respected. Building positive relationships, fostering a sense of belonging, and addressing any instances of rejection are essential aspects of effective teaching.

In summary, affection and rejection are both crucial aspects of the human experience. While affection nurtures our emotional well-being and relationships, rejection helps us build resilience and character. Understanding and navigating these experiences can shape our personal and academic lives in profound ways.

Right Vs Wrong - Sunbeam Suncity

Right Vs Wrong

Self-esteem plays an important role in the relationship between teachers and students. A teacher's behaviour & actions can either motivate, boost and encourage a student to do well in life or hurt or erode a student's self-esteem & lead him or her to dislike people or things.

Through this short video, the Sunbeam Suncity team have shown that it's very important to hear a child's concern and to make the right decision.  The importance of listening to children acknowledge their mistakes and builds trust and respect.

Like Vs Unlike - Sunbeam Indiranagar

Learn to say no, not all things are right for the soul.

Peer pressure is when your friends or people around you try to influence you to do something, whether good or bad. It can be tough to resist sometimes, but it's important to make decisions that are right for you. Peer pressure among teenagers is based on their lifestyle and their expectations.

Not able to hang out with friends as their other classmates or neighbours. Based on this fact, presenting the real story by teachers of Sunbeam School Indiranagar.

Why Relationships Matter? - Vani Vij

Relationships play a crucial role in mental, emotional, and physical well-being because they provide social support, companionship, and a sense of belonging. Positive relationships contribute to emotional stability, and reduced stress, and can even impact physical health through shared activities and mutual care. Loneliness, on the other hand, has been linked to various health issues.

To improve any kind of relationship, communication is the key. Listen actively, express your thoughts openly, and seek understanding. Foster trust by being reliable and consistent. Show empathy and be willing to compromise. Prioritize quality time together and engage in shared activities. Be supportive during challenges and celebrate successes. Continuous effort, mutual respect, and a willingness to grow together can significantly enhance the strength of any relationship.

However, negative relationships often stem from poor communication, lack of trust, and unresolved conflicts. Other factors include dishonesty, disrespect, unmet expectations, and a lack of emotional support. Criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling are known as the "Four Horsemen" in relationships, identified by relationship expert John Gottman, and can contribute to negativity. Identifying and addressing these patterns can be crucial for building and maintaining healthy relationships.

Overall, healthy relationships foster a supportive environment that promotes well-being on multiple levels.

War Vs Peace in Class - Deepti Sharma

Since I don’t have any high-risk classroom experience. Reading about high-risk behaviour in the classroom if I had been at Roma’s place I would try to navigate the class to calm down. I would convey a clear message to the students that such behaviour is unacceptable.

I will counsel the child and make him/ her understand that we value him. This behaviour is not good for him to be a responsible adult one day. I would have not handled it the way Ms Roma has handled it. There are a few things that I am learning here. In this Case study Ms.Roma was guided by counsellor Ms.Uttara.

Roma being a wonderful teacher has also proven herself to be an ideal student. The importance of calculation is realised when Ms Reshma miscalculated her response by underestimating the situation which in turn led to the deterioration of the situation.

The students should realise that they are valued at school. They will reciprocate the same to their teachers. A teacher has to be emotionally strong only then she will raise emotionally strong students.

Reflection: War versus Peace in Class

1. In your journey so far, have you been the ‘different’ student/teacher joining a new school?
Have you been on the other side too - of welcoming a ‘different’ person into your world? How did that go?
Based on the session, reflect a little on what could have been the pros and cons of your own experience joining a new space and welcoming another joining your space. What could have been better in both, if any? Or list any possible learnings from them.

2. Reading about high-risk behaviour in the classroom, did any incident in your classroom or outside, come to mind? If yes, how did you handle it? What was the final resolution like and does this session add some more learnings to perhaps add to your style of handling?
If you haven’t experienced a high-risk scenario in your classroom, imagine yourself to be in Roma’s place and reflect on how you would have tackled it.

Why Relationship Building Matters? - Shalini Tiwari

In my opinion, building relationships is a foundation of any school which first of all influences the environment of the school where a student is the centre point of the school. If he/she feels valued and connected to everyone in the school then he/she develops in every area.

The child gets wings and this is possible only when a teacher connects with him/her emotionally, personally understands his needs, removes his/her doubts or understands his her inclination and helps him/her in that direction.

Then the child develops self-confidence, accepts challenges and achieves academic success. Often children who are introverts are not able to express their needs, due to which many times they are not able to prove themselves even after having the ability.

In such situations, the teacher should not be judgemental.He/she has to help that child. There is a need to further strengthen their relationship.

The role of teachers is not limited to just teaching their subjects. It is seen that even today many parents consider studies done in this traditional way, which creates problems for a child in balancing school and home studies.

In such times, the role of a teacher becomes even more important, how he can explain to the parents the importance of the changing methods and technology of education.

For this, relationship building with children and parents will have to be strengthened.
