Creative: Am I the one?

“Creativity” – I googled this term and found these 7 possible ways through which we can make our children creative.

  • Make Children Question Things. ...
  • Provide Opportunities to Express Their Intelligence. ...
  • Teach Them Multiple Ways to Solve Every Problem.
  • Trigger Their Curiosity.
  • Engage Them With Activity Boxes.
  • Encourage Children to Read for Pleasure.
  • Give Them Free Time & Space.

And it’s a challenge in front of the entire education community to adopt the above methods excellently and make our kids the new age – Picasso, Einstein or Shakespeare. We have enough thoughts. Let’s look at it retrospectively.

Fear kills creativity

The real reason why we don’t’ move creatively ahead always is fear. People are afraid that they don’t have the talent, or they’ll be rejected, judged, insulted, criticised or ignored. They have tumbling piles of fear.

  • Abundance starts with appreciation and a feeling of being accepted by the community. Including appreciation and acceptance in our methodologies can tap the hidden potential in our children.

The Art of making mistakes

We keep instilling this very idea in the minds of our children that they have to be right, and by the time they become adults, they lose their capacity of committing mistakes. They become frightened of being wrong. We stigmatize mistakes. By this, we are educating people out of their capacities.

  • Allow mistakes to happen in a classroom – Children are not frightened of being wrong. They are not frightened of making mistakes.

In the words of Picasso -All children are born artists. The problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.

I believe passionately that we don’t grow into creativity; we grow out of it. Or rather, we get educated out of it. Creativity is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status.

Story: A small incident from a grade 2 drawing class gave me a clear picture of confidence taking the shape of creativity.

A girl was drawing something in a class, and the teacher asked – What are you drawing?

The girl said I am drawing a picture of god.

The teacher asked, but nobody knows what god looks like.

The girl answered - “They will in a minute.”

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes and grow.

Unity and Caring - Reah Sikand

Parenthood and teachers have a very powerful job, the job to bring up a human being and shape them and give them good values.
When I became a teacher I realised I am shaping children’s minds at a young age and for them to be good human beings I needed to have the values it takes for them to learn from me. Kindness and compassion need to be instilled in children from an early age. I realised my job was not only to teach them in a classroom but to teach them outside the classroom as well. I needed to play more roles in their lives much more than a teacher.

Caring is an emotion that most us crave for and need. From when a child is born she needs to be cared for and given lots of love to and when we turn old that’s the other time when we need the most care from people. We feel a certain sense of security and love when we know we have someone who cares about us. Kids need lot of care and they also need to care for each other. Kids have a great quality of sensing adults. Even if your a strict teacher and you care about the kids they can totally sense it and this is something I have observed personally. Kids need to be dealt with a lot of patience care and love.

Unity is when we work together as a unit, we as human beings are very different from each other but unity brings us together. Unity is essential for group work, when we work in unity we learn to cooperate with each other and this helps in the smooth functioning of work. As they say united we stand divided we fall. I feel schools specially boarding schools help teach us the true essence of unity. We unknowingly learn the power of unity when we play group sports and we live together for 8 months of the year together. When we are united we learn to respect each other’s opinions and accept people for who they are. Like they say one for all and all for one.

In times like this of Covid we need to stand united and help each other in whatever possible manner we can. I feel values and morals make a good human being and being, a good human being is the most important thing by the end of the day. When we meet a person for the first time we meet a person we base our judgment on how their personality is or how they treat us, we don’t remember their marks or their degree by the end of the day we remember the person and their personality and how they treated us that’s what matters most.

Freedom and Peace - Achievers JMMS

FREEDOM AND PEACE

The right to act, speak and think freely can very well define freedom. Freedom allows us to be ourselves. It is the state of not being controlled by somebody else.

Peace is a situation in which there is no war or violence. It is the state of being calm and quiet. Peace is the quality of being Absent from disturbance.

This is the story of freedom and peace. It is the story where the child realises his strength with the help of a teacher.

Handling Pressure - Prakash Dangi

Courtesy: newstodaynet.com
How do you handle stress and pressure? The easiest way to get started is to take ten minutes each day to prioritize and organize all the key things you need to accomplish. Once you have the big priorities identified, you can break down your large goals into smaller, more manageable incremental goals. At that point, you will have a plan for moving ahead. Focusing on accomplishing one task at a time can prevent you and others from feeling overwhelmed. With this in mind, try these tips to start thriving under pressure.

It’s important to recognize the small steps that you and your team members are taking towards completing a larger project because it helps people feel good about their accomplishments, builds morale, and bolsters the team’s confidence while working through long-term initiatives.

Studies strongly suggest that having the ability to handle pressure successfully plays a significant role in their success and the organization they work for. People who work well in high-pressure situations have a few things in common, including the ability to resolve conflict positively and meet challenges with humour and determination. These leaders and employees have the self-awareness to know when they feel stressed and manage their responses to that pressure.

Think About Yourself - Byju Joseph

Courtesy: quotemaster.org
Think about yourself and plan your own life. If you don’t decide your own future, someone else will do it for you. Each time you fail to control your own life, you give control of your life to someone else. Your failure and success stories depend only upon you. You get what you make out of your life. There may be circumstances that won’t favour you. Don’t allow them to control your aim and to destroy it. You have to fight to achieve it and it is possible only when you are there. Never assume that somebody else will do it for your success. The way to success is not crowded, you have to make it all alone and at the end the reward is going to be only yours. There are people who blame others or their circumstances but in reality it is just the way to escape from their own responsibilities. You can find excuses, but you have to keep in mind that your life is hundred percent your responsibility, you just can’t run away from it. After all you are doing this to yourself only. You are not doing this for the sake of others or to satisfy them.

Some people may go against you, that they may try to bring you down. But it depends on how you respond to it. Keep in mind everything remains powerless unless you provide power to it. There may be hardships, there may be circumstances that won’t favour you; keep in mind that if one door shuts down at you, the other one opens up for you, but you have to take off your eyes from the closed one firstly. Lookup for other chances; life always gives you chances to succeed. If it is not in one attempt, maybe the next one will be for you. You never know until you try.

Each and everything starts from your thinking. It all depends on the way you think. Your thinking becomes your reality; it is very true.  Imagine good things and good will happen to you. Imagination is just the way of making reality first in our minds. It is exactly like a blueprint which we make before constructing a building. Each and everything should be planned before it is executed in real life. Otherwise, it won’t make any sense. You will get all messed up without your planning in mind. It is like getting an overview or an idea about a certain thing in your life. Thinking is so powerful; it can make you more and more powerful.

Freedom and peace - Visionary JMMS

Freedom means to do what you want, but for freedom to exist, one has to choose between the different choices. It also doesn't mean to do as we want or please, but it is the opportunity to do what is right.

Peace begins with a smile, as Mother Teresa said. Peace gives us happiness and a sense of satisfaction. Peace is a gift that we all can give to each other.

This is the story of freedom and peace on our planet Earth. It is the story of realisation that mankind has the willpower to change everything.

Freedom means to do things whatever we want to do, in the absence of necessity and interception. Freedom means to do something with our own ideas and methods. When we do something according to our own rules and regulations then we will get peace of mind. Peace is essential for freedom.

What is in it for me? - RP Devgan

For me, it is the opportunity to make a difference. I am the blessed and the chosen one to take care of children, the future of our society. If I look at the enormity, the seriousness of my job, it is quite frightening. I have been bestowed with the trust and responsibility of the school and the parents to guide children to grow up into successful and endearing individuals. I have been given and I have taken on the responsibility of nurturing young impressionable minds. To do so I have to be a role model myself.

Years of experience with children, especially ones who are a challenge for various reasons,  has taught me that nothing succeeds like affection and understanding. Children are very good judges of educators. They take their time to see whom they can trust and confide in. The minute they are sure of trust,  they need to know if the concern of the educator is genuine. Once the children feel that the educators genuinely care for their well-being, it is only then that they open up and are uninhibited. Children must feel that the educators ‘care' for them.

With information and knowledge available on the internet, the role of a teacher more than anything else is of ‘Pastoral Care’.The children should be brought up with the right values and empathy. This starts right in the early years in a primary school. Students are most impressionable when they are in primary and middle school.

Going back to the educator and the question: ‘What is in it for me?’

The Educators must realise the important role they play in guiding children in shaping their opinion, beliefs and convictions. Living up to principles in the teen years needs courage and willpower. This is the time students need to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong.

To carry out this onerous task the educators need to grow and change with the times. Their self-development must not be for themselves alone but for the benefit of the students. The self-development of educators is often associated with ambition and many believe that this self-development should lead to climbing the ladder and winning awards. Educators must stick to their jobs and realise that ambition can lead to frustration. Successful educators are those who follow their passion for educating children and not look for awards and rewards. They must be selfless and work for the good of society.

Today, an educator needs to be versatile and open-minded. Teaching in the classroom and online is not enough. Educators need to spend time outdoors, in a natural environment, to be more effective. Students are far more responsive to suggestions and advice when they are in a free and comfortable environment. Educators who are musicians, sportsmen, who direct plays or spend time with children outside the classroom are far more successful in getting through to them and winning their attention and trust. That is where holistic education steps in.

Students who are achievers, if guided properly, turn out to be good human beings without any effort. This is what the world today needs; students who pass out of school as achievers and yet are compassionate and caring human beings.

Unfortunately, this is not happening in most schools. Children are graduating from school confused and with the wrong values, unable to distinguish between right and wrong. An example is for all to see in the current pandemic crisis; black marketeers of medicines and oxygen cylinders today, a real shame to the society we live in.

What can educators do today?  The answer is that they can make a difference to the lives of hundreds of children they come in contact with and make our society and the world a better place.

All educators should be proud of the profession and proudly say ‘I make a difference.'

Freedom and Peace - Reah Sikand

We often hear words such as freedom and peace, and every individual has their own interpretation of these words. Freedom for some could be sharing their point of view; for some, it could be attending a dance class or music class, and for some, it could mean wearing the clothes they like. When we teach kids freedom, it mostly means giving them space and the right to make their own decisions, they will definitely make mistakes and go wrong at times, but that is the best way for them to learn what freedom means. If we as adults keep spoon-feeding our kids, our kids will never be independent. Kids need their space as much as adults do; they don’t need people telling them what to do all the time. They definitely need to be guided by adults, but they also need to make their own choices.

I knew a kid called Sara, who was 6 years old, and her parents were very strict with her and never let her have junk food, so when her parents would not be around, she would eat so much junk that she would get sick. She knew she didn’t have the freedom to eat junk with her parents, so any chance she would get, she would eat so much junk that she would fall sick. We need to help kids become responsible citizens, and for this, freedom is important. Sometimes we adults go wrong too, and kids should have the freedom and right to correct us.

Peace everybody's need for their mental health and physical health. Peaceful kids are happy kids; peace is essential for people to be happy. If the environment you stay in and work at is peaceful, you will definitely be a happy person. Sometimes we need to compromise a little and push our egos aside for a peaceful environment. Kids look up to adults as their role models, and when they observe our values, they automatically learn them from us. We need to help kids understand that fighting and hitting is not the only way to resolve an issue. We need to teach them ways like communicating their problem with each other, and talking it out would be more helpful. We as teachers sometimes get angry with them and sometimes raise our hands so for them they think it’s normal to shout and raise their hand, for kids to learn values from us we adults need to understand these values and work on them, kids will learn by observing us.

Peace and freedom are essential for all of us, and with these values, we can become better human beings, better teachers and better parents.

National Drawing Day - Kusum Sharma

National Drawing Day is celebrated on May 16 of every year. Drawing is a form of visual art in which the individual uses several drawing instruments to mark the paper or another two-dimensional medium. Tools like graphite pencils, pen, ink, inked brushes, wax colour pencils, charcoal, pastel, chalk and other kinds of erasers, markers, styluses and much more will be used. National Drawing Day tells you that everything inside you is valuable and deserving to be shared with the world. The day is also there to bring much-needed appreciation and awareness to artists and illustrators.

Drawing is one of the important forms of expression within the visual arts. It is concerned with marking lines and areas of tone onto any material where the accurate representation of the visual world is expressed upon a plane surface. Traditional drawings were monochrome, while modern coloured-pencil drawings may cross a boundary between drawing and painting.

Celebrating the day is quite easy and very simple to remember. The annual event will be conducted every year, and it will encourage the people to try drawing and sketching in the inspiring and beautiful environment of the country. You can invite families, children and friends to come and help to create a large-scale drawing. Or simply draw a picture that you loved most and then show them to friends and family members.

Importance of Social and Emotional Learning - Bharti Rao

Social & Emotional Learning provides a foundation for safe and positive learning. The whole focus of institutions should be more on learning than on teaching. Focus on learning helps to enhance the students’ abilities to succeed in school, career and life.

As Educators, we need to find different motivational ways to engage the students in learning to behave positively and perform academically. We need to find the potential of a student and help him grow accordingly. Mastery of Social & Emotional aspects will help us go a long way, but we need to practice empathy. Empathy needs to be inculcated in the student’s, and they will be able to recognize other’s emotions.

Social & Emotional Learning helps enhance their relationship skills, establishes & maintains a healthy, rewarding relationship. You inculcate the value of empathy and compassion. SEL helps one to become a responsible decision-maker, creates self-awareness & self-confidence. It inculcates communicative & collaborative skills in the students.

As Educators, we know that all our students are different. Hence, we need to understand our students, find their potential, develop their skills according to their ability, invite their experience, and sharpen their dreams. Emphasizes should be laid down on the all-round development of the student. The need of the hour is to develop one’s social and emotional learning in schools and at home, and in society.
