    - Poonam Rani

Raman Sood

In the depths of trials, where darkness looms, Courage ignites, dispelling gloom. A flickering flame, bold and bright, Guiding souls through the darkest night.

Patience, a virtue, a steadfast grace, A gentle current in life's tumultuous race. With steady resolve, it softly whispers, Navigating obstacles like skilled river blisters.

Courage rises, a warrior's might, Facing fears, ready to fight. With bravery as its trusted shield, It conquers doubt, refusing to yield.

Patience, a companion, serene and wise, In stillness, it learns as time flies. It endures through trials and tribulations, Embracing delays, steadfast and sure.

Courage and patience are inseparable, Hand in hand, a testament, rare. Together they embolden the human soul, Leading us forward and making us whole.

So let us embrace these divine virtues. In courage and patience, our spirits align. In the face of adversity's wrath, We shall find strength on life's arduous path.

- Reena Sisodia

In the face of fear, courage stands tall, With a heart so strong, it never will fall.

It whispers, "Keep going, don't lose your way, For every storm, there's a brighter day."

Courage is not about being without fear, But facing it bravely, with strength sincere.

It's taking a leap when doubts arise, Trusting your instincts, and reaching for the skies.

Patience, a virtue, oh so profound, Like a sturdy oak tree, deeply rooted in the ground.

It teaches us to wait, to endure and believe, That every setback, we can still achieve.

Patience is calmness, a tranquil stream, In the face of chaos, it keeps our dreams.

It whispers, "Be steady, don't rush ahead, For great things come to those who tread."

Together, courage and patience intertwine, Guiding us forward, their light will shine.

With courage, we face challenges unknown, With patience, we wait, and our seeds are sown.

So let us embrace these virtues each day, As we navigate life's winding way.

We'll conquer mountains with courage and patience as our guide, our spirits will glide.

Simplicity and Trust - Welham Boys' School

Simplicity

What is Simplicity: Simplicity is a state of being simple (Uncomplicated or Uncompounded) *.

How is Simplicity of things Identified: In essence, anything that is plain, natural and easy to understand is simple. Like everything in life, Simplicity is relative and depends on the recipient's views or perceptions of the recipient(s).

The following six key attributes help in generalising criteria to identify Simplicity in any creation.
1. Reduction (Should not contain any non-essential clutter)
2. Organization (Should be very well organized, in appropriate sequence)
3. Affordances (Should meet expectations of target audience)
4. Tangibility (Should be useful/helpful)
5. Intuitiveness (Should be self-explanatory, easy to navigate or understand)
6. Familiarity (Should be familiar/relatable)

Why is Simplicity Important: Simplicity focuses on what is essential and eliminates clutter. That gives time and energy back to focus on other vital things in life. In today's world, simple living has become a social responsibility. Less consumption helps eliminate waste, improves the sustainability of our planet and helps divert resources toward those who need them most.

"Live simply so that others may simply live" - Mahatma Gandhi.

Why is it challenging to create Simplicity:

"I did not have time to write a short letter, so I ended up writing a long one ☺" – Mark Twain.

All natural beings are made simple at the core. Our experiences, perceptions and environmental factors create a clutter of mind that obscures Simplicity.

Striving for Simplicity is ultimately a matter of focus; focus on what is essential to the subject (a process being established, a topic being taught in the classroom, a product being manufactured, a software program being developed) and clearing clutter.

Eliminating any type of clutter (Physical or Mental) requires focus and practice. Simplification involves a lot of hard work, patience and thinking. In general, the following steps help in simplifying any problem or situation:
1. Write down the problem in a language that is easy to understand
2. Break the problem into smaller parts
3. Engage with experts to understand complexities and eliminate them
4. Re-Imagine the situation / Rearrange / Reorganize

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" - Leonardo da Vinci.

Things I will carry out in a class.

1. Understand children's definition and perspective of Simplicity

2. Carry out an exercise to pick a topic (e.g. How a computer works?).
a. Explain it simplistically. Have children come up with their explanation of the topic
b. Conduct feedback sessions.
c. Summarize learning from the exercise

Trust

What is Trust: Trust is the willingness of one party (the trustor) to become vulnerable to another party  (the trustee) on the presumption that the trustee will act in ways that benefit the trustor.

"Trust is the new currency of our interdependent, collaborative world." - Stephen Covey.

Why do we need Trust: Trust is the glue of life. It's the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It's the foundational principle that holds all relationships. We have survived and progressed as species because we can trust and reciprocate.

By nature, every human is born trusting. As we mature, we learn to build and identify trustworthiness through our experiences and instincts.

In all our relationships, integrity plays an essential part in trust building. Operating with integrity fosters mutual goodwill and support, which leads to an improved sense of spirit, mutual loyalty, cooperativeness, shared responsibility and resilience. All these qualities lead to more mutually satisfying and enduring relationships.

"Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not" – Oprah Winfrey.

How to build Student-Teacher Trust: Trust and mutual respect are crucial elements in creating a positive classroom environment. Students trusting in the ability and intent of teachers can outperform their ability and progress well in studies and life in general. At the same time, teachers who believe in students' sincerity feel rewarded and are inspired to go out of their way to provide better education.

Trust is earned by honesty, positive intent, strong competencies, and a track record of results.

Building trust is a process which requires consistency and practice. Some of the tips to build this mutual trust and  respect are

1. Honor each other's time, be open in giving / receiving feedback
2. Engage students at their levels, respect their talents and interests
3. Always accept student differences, and listen to them actively
4. Remember to complete your commitments consistently

"Trust is built on telling the truth, not telling people what they want to hear" – Simon Sinek.

Classroom Trust Building Exercise:
1. Build class bonding – Talk about each person's family, areas of interest and hopes for the future.
2. Make a calendar of important dates for class (including students and teachers). Celebrate important milestones/dates. Appreciate each other's company and accomplishments as a group.
3. Conduct periodic meetings with students to review progress and provide & receive feedback 4. Conduct one or more team-building exercises with the class. **

Quality and Love - Reah Sikand

Love and Quality are two great values or feelings that a child must have. Children understand the language of love better than any adult. When a child feels secure and loves, he performs much better in class and grows up to be a lovely human being. All living things need love and care. I had a child in class 3 who would score fewer marks in English, I would often hear teachers getting upset with her. I decided to help her out in her free time. I was patient and loving towards her. I was surprised to know that she had done much better in English papers that year. When a child is scared of their teacher or parent, they get uncomfortable to ask questions and do not perform their best. On the other hand, when an adult is loving, kids feel more comfortable communicating with them. Love is something every individual craves for.

Quality in the class depends on the potential of each child. Every kid has its own capabilities, and the last thing we adults should do is compare the kids to each other. In my class, I ask the kids to help each other in their studies. This makes their bond and friendship stronger.

With age, I have realised the importance of quality over quantity. Like I tell the kids, when you do something, give it your hundred per cent or don’t do it. Sometimes when I enter class, the kids are not in the mood to study and o respect that, and we have a fun class or watch some interesting videos on the screen.

We as teachers teach the kids various things, but the kids are the best teachers for us as well.

If a child does a shoddy job with her classwork, I will sit with that kid alone and try and understand the reason for it, maybe I did not teach the topic well, and she found it difficult to do her homework, and I will sit with the kid and teach her the topic one on one where she can freely tell me what her doubts are.

In a situation where boys and girls are together, there is bound to be a romantic relationship, which is normal. We need to normalise such situations. I would talk to the student and tell them it’s absolutely fine, but certain limits should not be crossed; otherwise, that could lead to many problems for the kid.

Freedom and Peace - Aspiration JMMS

Freedom means to do things whatever we want to do, in the absence of necessity and interception. Freedom means to do something with our own ideas and methods. When we do something according to our own rules and regulations then we will get peace of mind. Peace is essential for freedom.

Happiness and Tolerance - Invincible Alphians

Happiness is essential in life, and it comes from us only. We should not overthink. We should not hate anyone around us. We should always try to help people around us, then naturally we will have peace of mind and peace of mind is only happiness.

7 Remarkably Powerful Keys to Happiness

  • Live (or work) at the moment. Don't get stressed thinking about things you have to do later on. ...
  • Find resilience. ...
  • Manage your energy. ...
  • Do nothing. ...
  • Treat yourself well. ...
  • Venture outside your comfort zone. ...
  • Show compassion outwardly.
We can say that Happiness is the feeling of truly enjoying your life and the desire to make the very best of it. Happiness is the "secret sauce" that can help us be and do our best. It has also been found that: Happy people are more successful.

Tolerance is also an essential thing in life. Tolerance does not mean giving up one's own way of life. Tolerance is following the motto  'Live and let Live'. Tolerance just understands another person’s beliefs and practices, and habits without necessarily accepting them or following them.

It is adjusting to others a little, giving up just a little to make someone else happy. It understands that everyone has more or less the same basic needs as oneself. It realises that ultimately everyone wants to be happy and peaceful. We should understand that following does not help others alone. It helps oneself greatly when one is tolerant, the mind expands, habitual selfish junk is replaced with fresh peacefulness and calmness.

Tolerance is an important concept that helps people to live together peacefully. Tolerance also means that you don't put your opinions above others, even when you are sure that you are right. Tolerant people show strength in that they can deal with different opinions and perspectives.
  • Listen Carefully Without Jumping to Conclusions. ...

  • Try to Understand the Other Person's Point of View. ...

  • Agree to Disagree.

  • Tolerance is patience toward a practice or opinion you disapprove of — Tolerance is being agreeable—listening carefully and treating the person with dignity and respect—while you disagree. ...

  • Tolerance has limits—Reality is beyond opinion.

How one can achieve Tolerance?

Tolerance comes by practice. Nothing comes on its own; practice yourself to listen, wait and approach rules. This can be explained by the following examples:-

Tolerance is nothing in front of a mother who carried us in her womb for 10 months. That is the most beautiful as well painful tolerance ever one can compare.

Think about a soldier who is waiting for his next gunshot to hear by hiding inside the bushes.

A beggar hardly earns in a day and returns with an empty pocket and wake up with the tolerance level of hope to survive.

A photographer who waits for a year to just capture the fish to come out from the water.

In contrast, precocial birds spend hardly any time in the nest and are often seen wandering in search of food alongside their parents only hours after hatching.

There is no level called Zero tolerance. Life goes on its flow. Show your patience towards it and replace the word tolerance.

In short, we can say, Happiness and Tolerance are like two sides of the same coin.
  1. Intolerant people can often be happy.

  2. Unhappy people can often be tolerant.

  3. Tolerant people are often also happy.

  4. Happy people are often also tolerant.
