Simplicity is the essence of happiness. 

Happiness is opening the gate of satisfaction and helping us to make our surroundings positive. Simplicity is in our actions and gives reflection to others. This reflection generates trust between two.

Trust is in our actions. 

In a trustworthy relationship, it is easy to convey our thought process without any barriers. Trust means to believe in oneself, others, etc. We need to inculcate these values in our students as it plays a major role in our life.

In grade 5, I did one activity on simplicity. It was my science class and we started with hands-on activities to understand the concept of changes around us. The activity on curd making was the first task which I gave to students. It was simple yet important for everyone in daily life. I gave instructions as a facilitator to my students that we can set curd even in the school. I performed this activity and students learnt the art / technique of setting curd. They learnt about the temperature check, hotness of the milk and necessary conditions to make it possible. They were super excited and happy. These simple activities inculcate values.

Trust

The well-being of students has a direct impact on their progress. So, happy students learn better. As a teacher, we play a crucial role in their social-emotional well-being and development. We can create an engaging classroom environment with collaboration and respect. Team-building activities are perfect for teaching life-skills to students.

Circle time is a time for important social interactions among young children. Ithelps develop positive relationships between kids through engaging and fun activities. During circle time, students of grade 5 did one activity of trust and happiness. Students were divided into pairs. They did the activity of blind-walk. In this activity one student who is in the front will be blind folded and he has to rely on the other partner. The person takes the other for a walk by holding their hand or arm and talking to them as they go. This activity with blindfolds can progress by: Making the route they take more complex with regards to turns and twists. I gave a twist to the activity. In the beginning the activity was done between the friends. Same activity was performed between those who rarely talk to each other. This strengthened a bond among students.

My Experience in the Happy Teachers Program - Rishona Chopra

 Joy Of Learning (JOL) is based on The Little Book of Values: Educating Children to Become Thinking, Responsible and Caring Citizens. Learning happens through these values.

Appreciation, Caring, Cooperation, Courage, Freedom, Friendship, Happiness, Honesty, Hope, Humility, Love, Patience, Peace, Quality, Respect, Responsibility, Simplicity, Thoughtfulness, Tolerance, Trust, Understanding & Unity.

These values make up our life. We don't have to do anything significant to master these. Just opening a door for someone, bringing a smile to someone's face, making friends with someone, trusting someone, understanding someone, and other little acts can do it all.

All these values have an essential meaning in my life. But the one I connected to the most was - Humility and Appreciation. I am very competitive, and this value gave me the essence of appreciation and the happiness it provides. 

The greatest thing is; I get to see all these values from the teachers' perspective. I get to see what they think while dealing with children like us. 

I hope to do another session like this again!

Truth is ever to be found in simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things." - Isaac Newton Simplicity is a lovely idea, but in reality, it is often challenging to achieve.  
Being a different person in different situations may mean we do not accept who we really are. If we take our weaknesses and strengths and love ourselves, we are more likely to draw people and situations that are pleasing to us.
Simplifying our lives may be the best starting point to grow into better loving ourselves and others, leaving the unnecessary clutter behind. A teacher should be good at keeping things simple. He/She doesn't overcomplicate material and presents it in a very easily understood way.  

In today's world, simple has come to mean old, outdated, and not 'best practice'. Simple has come under fire because it isn't flashy enough and cannot be packaged and marketed for a profit. Unfortunately, I believe we're getting away from simple and replacing it with methods that clutter the mind and ultimately decrease knowledge retention.  

Simplicity is becoming a lost value in the classroom, and our students suffer.
I remember one of my teachers whose overall appearance was straightforward, simple and charming. Her appealing look must be due to her deep knowledge and always being approachable to the students. I always wanted to be as simple as she was.
Nobody loves to open up to a complicated person because it can make more tangles, but the scope to speak freely to someone solves all the hindrances. I find simple nature has become handy to manage difficult situations and remain in demand whenever there are some adjustment clashes. Not just the younger generation who need help but even the senior members use such person's service to solve any issue without dispute.
For me, simplicity is the most expensive ornament anyone can wear throughout life, and I cherish its reward by garnering genuine respect and love like my teacher has earned from all her students. One or two teachers would be so dear to every student because they made the teaching accessible and understandable.
Classroom Activity: Students can show simplicity in the classroom in many ways, including having students simply turn to one another and discuss a topic. The purpose of these techniques is to engage students and encourage their own knowledge construction. I just ask students to think about something for a few seconds, obviously something germane to the topic we're covering. Then, I have students pair up to have a sounding board for their ideas. Ultimately, I want them to come up with a well-developed response they can share with the class. After this activity, I showed them I was proud of them.
Always remember, Praise effort, not "smartness"! 
Trust
Trust is a two-way street earned over time through merit and based on actions. There is no singular action that will lead to developing a trusting relationship but multiple steps over an extended period to earn that trust. Building trust and establishing meaningful, cooperative relationships with your students will ultimately make your job easier.
Take the time to discover what your students like to do and incorporate their interests into your lessons. Establish a rapport and connection with them to engage them in class and show that you care about them beyond their performance in school. Always be willing to listen to your students. Be your students' biggest cheerleader. Never tell them that they cannot do anything. Help them accomplish their goals by familiarizing yourself with their specific needs and setting them on the path to success, gently nudging them in the right direction if they need it.

Simplicity and Trust - Shalini Solanki

Simplicity is beautiful as it is away from all complications, complexities, distractions and confusion. Simplicity and Trust go hand in hand. It is difficult to achieve simplicity ultimately. But regular practice makes one closer to it.

Activity: We recently conducted an exercise on simplicity and Trust. The name of the activity was 'Scavenger Hunt', where students were asked to draw clues on A4 sheets like walls of mirrors, beds, many books, computers, flowers and bushes, water, a smart board etc. They were asked to leave some space to write after each image. The children were very excited and curious about the next step. They were informed that they would be going for a school round, where they were asked to observe their surroundings and find out the room or place matching the images drawn by them and tick the same. They were discussing with their peers, excited to find something resembling their drawing, listening to the teacher and each other, using each other's back to tick, disciplined, happy and trusting each other for their ideas.

We returned to the classroom, and the children wrote the room names or places where they saw the things drawn by them. We discussed the entire activity, and without opening any book or smart board, we were done with the topic of 'Different Places in School'. I was pleased and satisfied with my students' clarity of concept and responses. It is fantastic that we can simply make little ones understand anything with clear and simple ideas.

Impact on students: They were more observant and calculative (e.g. they found 5 rooms of mirrors, where I was expecting one) 

My Learning: By being simple or making things simple, we can build Trust and make anyone understand, even the most challenging problems/ situations.

Simplicity

What is Simplicity: Simplicity is a state of being simple (Uncomplicated or Uncompounded) *. 

How is Simplicity of things Identified: In essence, anything that is plain, natural and easy to understand is simple. Like everything in life, Simplicity is relative and depends on the recipient's views or perceptions of the recipient(s).  

The following six key attributes help in generalising criteria to identify Simplicity in any creation. 

1. Reduction (Should not contain any non-essential clutter) 

2. Organization (Should be very well organized, in appropriate sequence) 

3. Affordances (Should meet expectations of target audience) 

4. Tangibility (Should be useful/helpful) 

5. Intuitiveness (Should be self-explanatory, easy to navigate or understand) 

6. Familiarity (Should be familiar/relatable) 

Why is Simplicity Important: Simplicity focuses on what is essential and eliminates clutter. That gives time and energy back to focus on other vital things in life. In today's world, simple living has become a social responsibility. Less consumption helps eliminate waste, improves the sustainability of our planet and helps divert resources toward those who need them most.

Why is it challenging to create Simplicity:  

"I did not have time to write a short letter, so I ended up writing a long one ☺" – Mark Twain. 

All natural beings are made simple at the core. Our experiences, perceptions and environmental factors create a clutter of mind that obscures Simplicity.  

Striving for Simplicity is ultimately a matter of focus; focus on what is essential to the subject (a process being established, a topic being taught in the classroom, a product being manufactured, a software program being developed) and clearing clutter.  

Eliminating any type of clutter (Physical or Mental) requires focus and practice. Simplification involves a lot of hard work, patience and thinking. In general, the following steps help in simplifying any problem or situation:

1. Write down the problem in a language that is easy to understand 

2. Break the problem into smaller parts 

3. Engage with experts to understand complexities and eliminate them 

4. Re-Imagine the situation / Rearrange / Reorganize

1. Understand children's definition and perspective of Simplicity 

2. Carry out an exercise to pick a topic (e.g. How a computer works?).

Trust

What is Trust: Trust is the willingness of one party (the trustor) to become vulnerable to another party  (the trustee) on the presumption that the trustee will act in ways that benefit the trustor.  

"Trust is the new currency of our interdependent, collaborative world." - Stephen Covey. 

Why do we need Trust: Trust is the glue of life. It's the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It's the foundational principle that holds all relationships. We have survived and progressed as species because we can trust and reciprocate.  

By nature, every human is born trusting. As we mature, we learn to build and identify trustworthiness through our experiences and instincts.  

In all our relationships, integrity plays an essential part in trust building. Operating with integrity fosters mutual goodwill and support, which leads to an improved sense of spirit, mutual loyalty, cooperativeness, shared responsibility and resilience. All these qualities lead to more mutually satisfying and enduring relationships.

How to build Student-Teacher Trust: Trust and mutual respect are crucial elements in creating a positive classroom environment. Students trusting in the ability and intent of teachers can outperform their ability and progress well in studies and life in general. At the same time, teachers who believe in students' sincerity feel rewarded and are inspired to go out of their way to provide better education. 

Trust is earned by honesty, positive intent, strong competencies, and a track record of results. 

Building trust is a process which requires consistency and practice. Some of the tips to build this mutual trust and  respect are 

1. Honor each other's time, be open in giving / receiving feedback 

2. Engage students at their levels, respect their talents and interests 

3. Always accept student differences, and listen to them actively 

4. Remember to complete your commitments consistently

Classroom Trust Building Exercise: 

1. Build class bonding – Talk about each person's family, areas of interest and hopes for the future. 

2. Make a calendar of important dates for class (including students and teachers). Celebrate important milestones/dates. Appreciate each other's company and accomplishments as a group. 

3. Conduct periodic meetings with students to review progress and provide & receive feedback 4. Conduct one or more team-building exercises with the class. **

Simplicity is living a life that is less hectic and shallow. When you understand Simplicity, you begin to have an appreciation for things you may not have noticed in the past. The little things in life become significant because they create some of the biggest joys.

By living a simple life and focusing on the things that matter, you're almost guaranteed to be happier. Without the distractions, noise, and stress brought upon us by cluttered surroundings, too much technology, processed foods, and endless noise, it's easier to feel happy.

Exercise on Simplicity – 

I showed the students a picture of a garden and asked them to write a short paragraph with five senses on it.

Impact on students- 

Students imagine themselves in a garden. They also showed their creativity by making drawings along with the paragraph.

Trust: - assured reliance on the character

"To trust means to rely on another person because you feel safe with them and have confidence that they will not hurt or violate you". 

Exercise on Trust – 

In the English period, I taught Commands with blindfolds. One of the students came in front of the class to give commands to the blindfolded students to reach the Library from Grade IV. Although the Library was not so far, the students had trust in each other, so they got to the destination only because of trust in their classmates.

Simplicity in life can be beautiful because it stops us from overthinking and overspending. A Simple life puts everything in order and harmony, which is essential for effective teaching.

One significant gain when you decide to simplify your life is the ease in recognizing the best path. The beauty of life as a whole grows through simple things. Similarly, teaching flows better when you have a simple and straightforward purpose. Simple solutions always take less time to finish than complex ones. In our classrooms, a teacher’s sincerity and humility should shine through in everything he says and does. Today’s scenario discusses new ideas in the education environment and focuses more on content. Indeed, some modifications are required to promote continuous growth, and it is best to keep it simple, so our classroom should be simple without distractions. 

Exercise on Simplicity

Garden visit to show the difference between Tap root and Fibrous root.

Students will be shown different types of plants in the garden; they will observe the pattern on the surface of the leaves and will be able to predict the types of roots.

Impact on Students: Better understanding (Learning by doing)

TRUST: Firm Belief 
Teachers who foster positive relationships with their students create a classroom environment conducive to learning. Moreover, a student who feels a strong personal connection with his teachers receives more guidance and praise. When the teacher-student relationship is vital, improvements are seen. Listen to your students what their needs are. Empathizing with your students goes a long way in building a trustworthy relationship.

Exercise on Trust :
Conducted one activity on the topic of Artificial Intelligence. Students were mentioned to do research work on different aspects of Artificial Intelligence. Groups were formed; each group was supposed to prepare one presentation and some charts, and a deadline was given.

Teacher’s Role: Facilitator
Each group was guided well regarding their sub-topic, and tasks were allotted.
Impact: Each group did an excellent job in their presentation and spoke well.
Learning: Teamwork, Trust, Creative Thinking and Critical Thinking.

1.       Simplicity

Simplicity is living a simple life and understanding everything just as it is simple. If we feel our mind has made our life complicated, we can start using a few techniques like deep breathing and self-reflection, which will also help to clear our unnecessary thoughts.

Things I will carry out in class.

ü  Connecting students with nature. Studying outside in nature will help students understand our needs' Simplicity. Nature is the best way to teach how everything is so simple, just the way it is. Also, nature helps to connect with the Simplicity within all of us.

Trust

Trust is the foundation of all values; Trust is having belief and faith in something or someone. Teacher and student relationship is based on the foundation of trust. The trust of a teacher in their students gives the student confidence to perform in class and in life. Also, the trust of a student in their teacher provides the teacher with hope for the future.

Things I will carry out in class.

ü  Doing team activities in class builds trust that the team members are there to support each other.

ü  Make five minutes the trust minutes where we share about ourselves with each other and appreciate.

Simplicity is having no complexes and focusing on the right things. It is essential to have Simplicity in the classrooms because there are several distractions, and we possibly can't focus on two things simultaneously. That is why it is important to have studies presented engagingly so that instead of useless distractions, we find this better than daydreaming in class! Also, there are several complications that our mind creates and some phobias which might trouble us. It's essential to increase our focus and concentration on one thing. Simplicity is connected to Humility. Simplicity is when we are humble. 

Another part of Simplicity is Minimalism. Your room would probably be filled with things you don't use or don't bring any value to your life. Imagine a life without those unnecessary things. Pretty plain and boring. Right? Not really. Humans have created a belief that is to love things and use people. Loving things will give you temporary happiness because as soon as things are finished, we crave them again and plead for them, and if we don't get it, we are disappointed or angry. While on the other hand, if we love people with a true heart, happiness lasts forever. People crave things so much and so that without them, they are not able to survive.

An exercise I would carry out in my classroom on Simplicity is: - "Poet Tree" Activity: Taking my class outside — asking them to observe things around them based on a theme; Later, children can record it in poems written by them.

- I would take them on a trip and afterwards ask them questions about what they noticed on the way, And write their experience and write the way to the place.

- How can you focus on utilizing things and keeping things simple at home. Make them tell what they have at home and out of that what they need and what they don't use - their wants.

The impact on students would be that they could focus more and be more attentive. It would make them know about minimalism.

Trust is a firm belief in reliability, truth, ability, or strength.

An exercise I would carry out in my classroom on Trust is:

- Make students explain the quote - Trust is when actions meet words.

- Conduct a classroom discussion on the value of Trust means to children, and instances where they have gained/lost Trust.

The impact on students will be that they will learn that Trust needs no complications and know how to show Trust in their actions.

Simplicity and Trust are connected. We need Simplicity to have Trust. When we trust someone, we make too many complications; we should learn to make it simple.

RESPONSIBILITY and COOPERATION - Triumph DGS

Values are the virtues that we learn and gather from our Parents, family, friends, colleagues, the books we read and the INFLUENCES in our life. They are the foundation for any viable life in society, the vehicles which propel the journey of life in a civilized manner. As we grow older, we learn new values day by day. Values are the basic structure of every living being. They actually denote a good life and are the beliefs that one holds, and are important in our life.

                                                 People will get to know YOU by your values!! 

And here, we talk about the TWO VALUES that complement each other so well that a single value is

incomplete without the other. If one is to MINDFULNESS than the other is the only way to GROW. They make PERFECT pair because to execute any kind of ..........whether it is at home or school or in social platform, it is not possible without seeking the ..........of people around. 

                                        RESPONSIBILITY & COOPERATION fills in these blanks.

When I say, "I am responsible”, This "I" is always in need of support from him, her, them and finally you."I" cannot do anything alone and the combination of all the other pronouns help "I" achieve what one desires.

Cooperation (Literal meaning- Support) and Responsibility walks side by side. These two values are like the wheels of a bicycle. If we are cooperative, then responsibility comes automatically. If we are simple, have the courage to accept the right and wrong, have patience and have the ability to tolerate the flaws, then be sure we will be cooperative and hence will be responsible. Cooperation is the MOTHER of all the other values. Without cooperation, we cannot bring other values together.

Respecting other’s feeling is a RESPONSIBILITY as well as COOPERATION towards others. So we can say that these values are like MIRROR REFLECTION.

We must be aware that we all depend on each other in any way, and nothing can be done single-handed in the world. So, we should make our maximum effort for the team. We should cooperate and pool our efforts to achieve the proposed goal. Responsibility and Cooperation can make us choose between success and failure.

Let’s hear some real-life incidents, depicting the importance of responsibility and cooperation (shared by our team members)

1)      Every year our school conducts a Science Exhibition. In the year 2019, being the head of the department, it was my responsibility to organize it. The cooperation, support and assistance that I received from the entire faculty, including the helping staff, was remarkable. This real-life example made me realize the importance of these two values. Responsibility and Cooperation, the two important pillars of teamwork. So they are essential.

 

2)     Our school is a preparatory school where children mainly prepare themselves for India's top schools. I realised the importance of these two values - when I was allowed to take entrance classes for such children and prepare for the same during this period of the pandemic through online classes. It was challenging to teach the subject and the values when they were not present in the school, but the cooperation I received from my co-teachers, my students, and my daughter really worked. Today, when I met those children after the exam, I realized the importance of these two values with their smiling faces.

3)      मेरा एक बहुत ही होनहार शिष्य है जिसका नाम 'सृजन'(काल्पनिक नाम) है। सृजन आवासीय विद्यालय में पढ़ने वाला एक प्रतिभावान छात्र है। सच में अपने नाम की तरह ही अनमोल और पवित्र बालक। जितना पढ़ने लिखने में होशियार, उतना ही खेल-कूद और विद्यालय के अन्य कार्यक्रमों में भी बढ़-चढ़ कर भाग लेने वाला। सृजन की दसवीं कक्षा की परीक्षाएँ चल रही हैं और उधर बिहार में उसके पिता 'बोन कैंसर' नाम की जानलेवा बीमारी से लड़ रहे है। पर नियति के आगे सब नतमस्तक हैं। पिता की हालत अचानक इतनी बिगड़ जाती है कि वो बेटा जिससे हम सभी को पूरी आशा थी कि बोर्ड की परीक्षाओं में १००% का परिणाम दिखा कर एक अलग ही कीर्तिमान स्थापित करेगा,वह अपनी आखिरी परीक्षा नहीं दे पाया और अचानक ही उसे पिता के पास जाना पड़ा।बीमार पिता की देखभाल में पूरे घर के सपने मिट्टी में मिल गए। उनके इलाज में इतना धन खर्च हुआ कि अब उस परिवार को अपने सपने पूरे करने तो दूर बल्कि जीवन यापन के बारे में सोच कर भी रूह कांपने लगी थी।

आज वह बच्चा एक coaching institute चला रहा है,जहाँ वह केवल उन्हीं बच्चो को पढ़ाता है जो उसी की तरह किसी मजबूरी का या कहें कि ज़िम्मेदारियों का शिकार होकर पढ़ नहीं पाए और उन जरूरतमंद बच्चों को वह मुफ्त में शिक्षा प्रदान करता है।

पर एक प्रश्न जिसने मुझे तोड़ दिया, वो यह था कि हम हर समय, हर जगह और हर हालात में ऐसा कह सकते हैं कि हमेशा हर कार्य के लिये अपना सहयोग देना और हमेशा अपनी जिम्मेदारियाँ निभाना क्या मनुष्य का नैतिक कर्तव्य है? क्या जो सब हुआ वो सही हुआ?

श्री कृष्ण ने गीता का उपदेश देते हुए कहा था कि कर्म किए जा और फल की चिंता न कर | सृजन ने जो कर्म और धर्म निभाया, उससे उसे मानसिक संतुष्टि मिली जो कि शायद तब न मिलती अगर वह उस समय सिर्फ अपने बारे में सोचता और आज एक सफल आई. ए. एस. ऑफिसर भी होता | उसने उस समय भी परिवार के प्रति कर्तव्यों का निर्वाह किया और आज भी समाज और देश के प्रति कर्तव्यों का निर्वाह कर रहा है |      

 डाल हाथ में हाथ चलें,हम हर मुश्किल आसान करें।

 है अपनी जिम्मेवारी,हो नर या हो नारी,

 जब भी ज़रूरत आन पड़े,जब भी खतरे में आन पड़े,

Simplicity and Trust - Visionary JMMS

Simplicity and Trust are parallel to each other. As teachers simplicity can be defined among the students' innocence, they ask many questions without even knowing whether the answers will make sense, but the teacher has to answer the child as they know their mind is crystal clear and they simply trust what they listen.  

So as educators we should also respect this bond or behaviour which they create with us. Which gradually leads them to be keen to take interest in the class and practice their lessons as well.

वैसे तो हम अपने बचपन से अपने माता पिता तथा सारे वातावरण से सभी कुछ सीखते हैं। लेकिन हमारे स्कूल की प्रिंसिपल  मैम से हमने सादगी से जीवन जीना सीखा है। वह हमेशा बहुत ही साधारण कपड़े पहनती और सादा भोजन करती थी। दही चावल उनका पसंदीदा भोजन था। वह हमेशा रेल के साधारण डिब्बे में सफर करती थी, सफर के दौरान वह केवल पाव भाजी खाती थी। घर पर अपना काम स्वयं करना उन्हें पसंद था। सफर में उनको सोने तथा बैठने के लिए खास सुविधा की जरूरत नहीं होती थी। वह ईश्वर के साथ-साथ दूसरों पर भी अटूट विश्वास  रखती थी। बड़े से बडे संकट मे भी वह घबराती नहीं थी। दुख के समय वह हमेशा दूसरों का सहारा बनती थी। स्कूल के बच्चों पर उनका हमेशा प्यार और विश्वास रहता था।

Simplicity and Trust- Tarang JMMS

Simplicity is the state of being simple. Simple here means without complexity.

The biggest reason people fail to maintain simplicity in their lives is their desire for complexity. The world that we live in where mobile phones, laptops and other technical gadgets are there to simplify our lives but these things rarely help us in experiencing true peace and quiet to gather our thoughts. These materialistic things have become quite important, but simple living doesn't mean that you leave everything behind and become a sage.

Simplicity is all about focussing on what's most important to you and letting go of the rest. A simple life provides freedom. Simplicity is when we learn to differentiate between our wants and our needs. Having satisfaction and happiness over whatever you have regardless of you being rich or poor is what describes a simple life. Enjoying every moment of life rather than running behind for more.

As educators when we look at our little toddlers we see simplicity in their eyes, we find simplicity in their words, actions and thoughts.

 It was the end of the academic session. Everyone gets excited to get promoted to the next class. But for the little ones of the class nursery, it was rather a sad moment. They all started crying when their teacher told them that they all have been promoted and soon they will go to Class K.G. They all innocently said that they don't want to go to the new class because they don't want to leave their teacher. 

For the little kids, a teacher is like a mother figure. The teacher also got a bit emotional on seeing the crying faces but was also overwhelmed to see the love and simplicity in their eyes. The innocence in their words showed their simplicity. The teacher reassured the kids that she will also come to their new class to teach them and they all will meet daily. The children were simply happy to hear this from their teacher.

This incident showed that a teacher and a student have a strong relationship and it affects both of them equally. The students have a lot of faith in their teachers. They trust their teachers a lot. A teacher needs to be simple and clear in her/ his actions and thoughts, rather than complicating the answer a teacher can make it more simple for the students. 

Simple people are more approachable and trustworthy.

Trust is the most important and fragile aspect of all relationships. In order to trust others, first, we need to start trusting and believing ourselves. Trust is one of the important elements that bind us together whether it be our house, in our classrooms or as a whole society. Absence of trust between people often results in arguments and conflicts.
