Love Learning

Suppose that there is a student who enjoys learning as someone who tends to a well-grown garden. They get up in the morning with much zeal and water the plants, pull out the weeds and watch the flowers grow. This gardener chooses gardening to satisfy his/her activities, improve every season, and be happy when the garden grows.

Curiosity and Enthusiasm: Like a gardener waiting for a new flower to bloom the student has the curiosity and interest for new learning.

Growth Mindset: The gardener comprehends that not all the plants will grow right away and this implies the patience that a student has to embrace when facing the challenge.

Persistence: As a problem-solver, the gardener attempts to solve a specific problem, and even if he/she makes a mistake, he/she adjusts. Likewise the student, the action gets through difficulty and modifies its learning patterns.

Hate Learning

Now, let us imagine a student who does not like studying; he or she would be like a person who would be coerced into cleaning a room he or she has no interest in. They view it as a burden, feel fear towards it and offer the least effort in order to complete it. It is as if the room is never cleaned, and the task seems almost like a punishment. 

Lack of Motivation: Similar to the unwillingness to clean a room that the student doesn’t consider important, they do not feel any desire to learn the content.

Fixed Mindset: This person might think that their room will never remain clean, just like the student who perceives difficult tasks as threats rather than opportunities for improvement or success. 

Avoidance and Procrastination: Similarly to another behaviour where the person does not clean up until the last moment, the student puts off studying and ends up stressed and not comprehensively informed. 

Engagement: Autotelic learners are those students who embrace the material, contribute to the learning process, and look for more knowledge. Any person who does not love learning always withdraws and loses out on gaining more knowledge.

Achievement: Interest in learning is associated with better academic performance and overall job satisfaction. Basically, hate learning leads to poor performance and a negative perspective towards learning. 

Long-term Success: Passion for learning results in perpetual learners who are committed to enhancing their knowledge and personal growth. On the other hand, a non-interest or even disgust for education hinders individual and career advancement. 

In a nutshell, loving learning turns the pros & cons of education into a pleasant and rewarding experience, while hating learning makes it an unpleasant task.

💔The Consequences of Hate  Learning

When children hate learning, it can have serious consequences for their academic performance and well-being. They may struggle in school, experience low self-esteem, or develop negative attitudes towards education in general. Hate learning can also lead to behavioural issues, as children may act out in an attempt to avoid tasks they find difficult or uninteresting.

It'll make their school life more enjoyable and help us to do better in our classes, and open up a world of exciting possibilities for our students. War and peace are stark opposites, shaping the course of history and the fate of nations. War, in all its forms, brings about destruction, suffering, and deep-seated trauma. It's a manifestation of humanity's darker side—greed, power struggles, and a failure to resolve conflicts peacefully. The scars left by war aren't just physical but also emotional and psychological, often taking generations to heal. 

Peace, on the other hand, is the bedrock of true progress. It's not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, cooperation, and mutual respect. In peaceful societies, people can pursue their dreams, innovate, and build better lives without the constant threat of violence. Peaceful times are when we see the most significant advancements in technology, culture, and overall quality of life. 

Advocating for peace means championing dialogue and understanding over aggression and hostility. It means tackling the root causes of conflict, such as poverty and inequality, through education and economic opportunities. A peaceful society is built on fairness and human rights, ensuring that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. 

Promoting peace also requires recognizing our shared humanity. By looking beyond our differences—whether racial, religious, or national—we can work together to solve global challenges. Understanding that we are all interconnected can lead us to a world where problems are addressed with empathy and reason, not violence and force.

My experiences have been really tough, as  I deal with teenagers. The age group 15 yrs to 18 yrs is really a very difficult age for children as they have a range of issues that is why it is categorised as a complex age. 

They have myriad issues, and the worst part is that nobody understands them. Parents have their own strict or pampering way of dealing with this age group. They have zero tolerance. Since they are not accountable to anybody, they handle their children according to their own way. 

Here the needs of children go unheard and remain unattended. This gives rise to behavioural issues in children which percolates from home but reflects in school.

Teachers have higher responsibilities to handle students' issues with care, keeping in mind the safety of each child sitting in the classroom.

I follow a few skills which my school has enriched me with to bring a better teaching-learning environment in my classroom. My classrooms are happy rooms. Though this was once not that easy. But rich experiences in Sunbeam Varuna made this possible.

Generally, it is noticed students are asked to listen and are not allowed to speak. I remember the book by Helen Keller 'The Story of My Life' where she shares her experience of college. She was desperate to go to college, but once she got admission, she realised that there are lecture-based classrooms and students are not allowed to think, create and reflect.

I made sure that in my classroom, all students get a chance to reflect. I welcomed their questions, I empowered them to choose topics and do volunteer teaching. I praised their efforts, celebrated their success and gave them positive feedback.

I build a strong and respectful relationship with students. Encouraging group work and peer-to-peer learning impacted their performance the most. Through this, I developed their love for learning. I showed them my passion for the subject I teach. I also taught them how to manage time and set goals.

By implementing these strategies, students developed a love for learning. Thus With all happiness, I look forth that children sitting in my classroom are at peace and are also ready to imbibe what I impart, making my classrooms the happy ones with effective - learning ambience.

To help a class overcome the fear of few subjects while focusing on slow learners, a teacher can take several strategic steps:

1. Create an Inclusive Environment-:

• The teacher should encourage all students by celebrating small successes and providing positive feedback.
• The teacher should foster an environment where students feel comfortable for asking questions without fear of judgment.
• The teacher should play smart by pairing the students with buddies or creating small groups so they can help each other.

2. Use varied teaching Methodology-:

• The teacher must incorporate hands-on activities, interactive software,   and practical exercises.
• The teacher must make more and more use of diagrams, videos, and demonstrations to explain concepts.
• The teacher must Introduce educational games that make learning more fun and engaging.

3. Focus on individual needs-:

• The teacher must adapt lessons to meet the needs of different learners.  
• Offer more challenging tasks for advanced students and additional support for those who struggle.
• The teacher must closely observe each child and prepare holistic progress reports so that she can determine the child's progress and where the teacher has to work. 

4. Build Confidence-:

• The teacher should always encourage students to experiment and learn from mistakes without fear of failure.
• The teacher should regularly show students how much they’ve improved, even in small increments.
• The teacher should always try to connect lessons to students' interests and real-world applications to make them more relatable and less intimidating.

5. Professional Development-:

•  Teachers should stay updated with the latest teaching strategies and technologies.
•  Teachers should share strategies and resources with other teachers to find the most effective methods.

 6. Engage Parents and Guardians-:

• Teachers must keep updating the parents about their child’s progress and encourage them to support learning at home.
• Schools should organize workshops or informational sessions for parents to understand the curriculum and how they can help.

By implementing these strategies, teachers can encourage students to learn better with good progress especially those who are slower learners or initially fearful of the subject.

I remember the day I joined Sunbeam Indiranagar with anxiety and nervousness. This was my first job as a teacher and I was so excited because I knew I was going to learn new things and figure out how to be patient with little children. 

I got a tremendous opportunity to showcase my talent and new ideas. I got to know people with different mindsets. Although it was challenging to adapt to the school policies, teaching methodology, and existing dynamics between staff and students, I really enjoyed the days with so many ups and downs.

On the other hand, there was a time when I tried to connect with new people and this success was visible because welcoming someone new always requires empathy, openness and inclusivity which has a favourable effect on the individual. puts.  

Thoughts on pros and cons (War vs. peace)

1. Benefits of joining a new place

• Opportunities to connect with new people.
• Getting diverse perspectives.

2. Disadvantages of joining a new place

• Ignored
• Unfamiliar environment
• Challenges of fitting into the organization.

High-risk behaviour in the classroom -

As such, I have not experienced many high-risk scenarios in my classroom. But I just want to share a recent incident that happened in my class. There was a child in my class who suddenly started shouting and throwing books during class. He was not at all interested in doing any work in class. He often used abusive words in class. This would really upset the whole class.

I tried to talk to the child on my end but was unsuccessful so I gave the child a quiet place to sit (e.g. library or computer lab) and took help from the school counselor. I realized how challenging it can be for teachers to handle such situations.  While handling this situation I learned that teachers can reduce the impact of high-risk behavior and promote a safe, supportive environment in the classroom for everyone

The eleven sessions are online, and you will see a paradigm shift in your staff teams as they experience eLearning at its best.

LFIN Professional Learning Program (PLP) is a vast and profound learning experience that immerses members in a model of inquiry and problem-­based learning. Staff members work collaboratively to gain knowledge to solve significant student learning problems in their schools. We seek to understand individual members' needs and then assist them in meeting objectives through a collaborative learning environment and with the support of experienced coaches.

The Academy offers a great way to experience blended learning. The 30-minute sessions are followed by group work and assignments; teachers will pick up skills and be future-ready; excellent team building at the school level ensures every individual's personal and social development.

Outcome and Certification: The educators are recognised for their effort with a Certificate Of Appreciation. The PLP is challenging and rewards educators for their actions.

Love Learning VS Hate Learning - Divya Upadhyay

We "Love Learning " when we find pleasure in doing something, then we are motivated and do some innovation in that so that we can explore more and more.

We " Hate Learning " when we are not interested in any task. We feel bored and we do it just for name sake and not to gain something.

We "Love Learning" when we are motivated from the inside, get a favourable environment to do any tasks so that chances of failure are minimized and we recognize the value of that Learning. My love for learning increases when we do something which makes me happy 

Hate learning starts when we don't find anything important in that task, or we don't get a favourable environment as well as the support of people around us to do that task. When we are forced by parents,  teachers or peers to do any task because they think that it is required as per norms of society then also it becomes a burden for a child when any individual does anything without interest chances of failure increase.

My suggestion is that Let's stop forcing our kids on anything as there are ample opportunities in every field in today's world. we need to stand behind our kids, we can suggest better opportunities in what kids choose rather than forcing them to do what we want.

Give our kids wings to fly. We need to take just good care of their wings.

Learning is all about growing and expanding your knowledge. And in this 21st century when we all are digitized it is all part of learning and discovering new things.

Moreover, I actually find love is learning when I see myself in 2010  and compare it with 2024- it has a vast difference. I gained a deeper understanding of the world around me. I explored different subjects and developed new skills. This enhanced my confidence and opened up new opportunities for personal and professional growth.

I think when you love learning you keep exploring and seeking knowledge. For me, learning is like a never-ending adventure that keeps me engaged and excited. But as a matter of fact, learning can sometimes feel challenging or overwhelming and then, learning becomes hatred. 

I am a single parent, and handling stress or being over-pressurized by my professional life makes me feel helpless, affecting my perception of learning. I often get frustrated when it comes to learning in stressful situations. 

But suddenly I felt it's okay to feel frustrated at times, it is also worth considering the benefits that learning can bring. If there are specific aspects of learning that you find difficult or dislike, it might be helpful to explore different approaches or seek support from teachers, mentors or peers. And yes it's true, when you feel over pressurized it's really tough to enjoy learning.

Few tips to make learning enjoyable rather than boring -

• Find your passion. 
• Make it interactive or innovative. 
• Set goals.
• Embrace curiosity.
• Connect with others.
• Take breaks.

So let's keep fueling our love for learning alive and continue to embrace the wonders of knowledge.

The dichotomy between war and peace is a constant struggle for teachers as they navigate the tumultuous waters of education. In times of peace, teachers can cultivate a harmonious and nurturing environment where students can thrive. They can focus on the joy of learning, the excitement of discovery, and the beauty of growth. Peace allows teachers to inspire their students, ignite their passion for knowledge, and foster a sense of community and collaboration.

But in times of war, the serenity of the classroom is shattered by the clamour of discord. Conflict arises, tensions mount, and the once tranquil atmosphere becomes a battlefield of competing interests and agendas. The teacher is no longer a facilitator of learning, but a mediator of disputes, a referee of disagreements, and a solider in the fight to maintain order and control.

In war, teachers are forced to navigate a minefield of challenges, from disruptive students to bureaucratic red tape. They must constantly be on guard, ready to defend the sanctity of education against the onslaught of distractions and disruptions. Their patience is tested, their resolve is strained, and their passion is threatened by the spectre of burnout and exhaustion.

But despite the hardships of war, teachers persevere. They endure the chaos and the conflict, knowing that their dedication to their students and their commitment to their craft will ultimately prevail. War Vs Peace in Class - Deepti Sharma

Since I don’t have any high-risk classroom experience. Reading about high-risk behaviour in the classroom if I had been at Roma’s place I would try to navigate the class to calm down. I would convey a clear message to the students that such behaviour is unacceptable. 

I will counsel the child and make him/ her understand that we value him. This behaviour is not good for him to be a responsible adult one day. I would have not handled it the way Ms Roma has handled it. There are a few things that I am learning here. In this Case study Ms.Roma was guided by counsellor Ms.Uttara. 

Roma being a wonderful teacher has also proven herself to be an ideal student. The importance of calculation is realised when Ms Reshma miscalculated her response by underestimating the situation which in turn led to the deterioration of the situation. 

The students should realise that they are valued at school. They will reciprocate the same to their teachers. A teacher has to be emotionally strong only then she will raise emotionally strong students.

2. Reading about high-risk behaviour in the classroom, did any incident in your classroom or outside, come to mind? If yes, how did you handle it? What was the final resolution like and does this session add some more learnings to perhaps add to your style of handling?

I was actually transported to my childhood days while reading this masterpiece of Kavita Bhupta Ghosh. The expressions like Multigrain diet, convoluted madness, broaching the crucial topic and countless golden words gladden me at its extreme.

More than anything else, a School is an adorable place for each child whether a backbencher, a last ranker, a mediocre or a topper. Jacob planned to appoint a teacher who was perfectly imperfect for the post of a teacher but even a backbencher, a last ranker and the one who experienced bitter failure in school or even in life can set conventional principles which can be used as bedrock.

We know that School is a place where we learn and grow. It is a place where we make friends and memories. It is also a heavenly place for a child where he learns about the world around him. They learn to read, write, think critically, solve problems and think creatively. It is a place where they can be themselves, they can be individuals and the centre of the whole system and where they can find a place in the world. For everyone school is the first place where they are introduced to various subjects. 

At school, we learn math, science, English, history, and many other subjects. We also learn about different cultures and different ways of life. All of this helps us to develop our unique perspective on the world. We learn to believe in ourselves and we are taught how to be the best version of what we are!

At school not only children but even teachers feel at home. They learn, laugh, play, create, bloom & smile together. School teaches children to cross the milestones with courage and a smile on their faces. Going to school and getting love, care, support, and respect, is the birthright of a child.

I, as a student during my childhood received every bit of knowledge and respect from my school and teachers and now I as a teacher should be giving the same, to my children to build their self-esteem, courage and confidence. Imparting knowledge and holding hands with our students is equally important to qualify the motto of a good school.

Let's build a nation where people are humble kind, loved, educated, confident, ideal citizens full of integrity, empathy, resilience, open-mindedness, and committed to justice and equality. They should be willing to contribute positively to their communities, embrace diversity, and work towards the betterment of society as a whole.
