Copy vs Not to Copy: A Moral Lesson

In a thought-provoking and engaging scene enacted by three teachers, students are taught the importance of integrity and the consequences of dishonesty during examinations. The short play "The Choice is Yours" explores the dilemma of copying versus honest effort and leaves a lasting impact on everyone who watches it.

The scene is set in a classroom during an examination. Teacher 1, known for strict but fair demeanour, reminded the students about the importance of honesty, urging them to rely on their preparation and trust in their abilities. Shortly the teacher stepped out, leaving the students under the supervision of Teacher 2, a lighthearted and mischievous character. Teacher 2, pretending to represent the tempting voice of shortcuts, humorously encouraged the idea of peeking at a friend’s answers, suggesting it was a harmless and quick solution.

However, Teacher 3, the calm observer, questioned this mindset, and pointed out the deeper implications of such actions, asking whether copying truly helped in the long run or merely set students up for failure when no one was there to assist them.

The turning point came when Teacher 1 returned and caught a student (imagined) red-handed in the act of copying. They sternly explained the consequences, underscoring that dishonesty leads to failure and regret. Teacher 2, acting as the enabler, tried to defend the action, suggesting that it was common and insignificant. Teacher 3, in a composed manner, delivered the moral of the story, stating that true growth comes from hard work and honest effort, not shortcuts.

The scene concluded with a powerful message from all three teachers. They highlighted the importance of choosing integrity over dishonesty, even when it feels challenging. The enactment ended with a meaningful quote:

“Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” – C.S. Lewis

The impactful performance a reminder to the students that while the path of honesty may be difficult, it is the only one that leads to true success and self-respect. It encouraged everyone to embrace integrity as a core value in their academic journey and beyond.

Courage and Patience - Kusum Sharma

Courage and patience go hand to hand because we need the courage to keep patience. Just related to this, I have recalled a stressful situation of a child due to examination pressure and parents' high expectations. It was one fine day of winter, I was enjoying my holiday. An email notification popped up on my screen. It was a wonder for me that I did not access my Gmail then how could I get a notification. I tried to find out about this, and the day passed away. Next day when I went to school, I tried to discover the matter.

After a lunch break, a child rushed to me to inform me of something. As I was busy teaching, I asked him to meet me after a lesson. The child came to me and was about to cry. I consoled him and asked the matter. Firstly he felt sorry and stated that due to exam pressure and his father's strict behaviour, he tried to open my email for the exam paper and after a few attempts, he was successful in accessing my mail Id. And after that in great fear of being caught by me, he formatted his gadget. I listened to everything patiently and dealt with him affectionately. I praised him for his courage of being truthful and also advised him to use his skill of technological advancement in an affirmative manner. I also explained to him a few ways to deal with exam pressure. The child listened carefully to all the ways to reduce stress from me and was very happy. Today he is a very good techie student and always tries to help his friends and teachers to make the technology easier for them.

In today's world when there is too much burden on students, examination became a fear for them.During exams they remain isolated not only from activities but from family also so that they can concentrate on studies. But as a teacher and parents we should not allow them to remain isolated instead we should help them in managing their time in a proper manner which include time for activities and play also.We should not impose things on our students and most importantly we should not compare them with anyone.Because comparison will never motivate them to work hard during examination.Only our love ,care and affection will motivate them.

Examination Fever

Oftenly, we have seen that whenever the examination are in head, the students suffer from examination fever. The approach of examination means the beginning of fear in the mind of a student. This is by because of the facts that for whole of the period other than examination days, they are usually seen in a happy mood, busy in games, watching cricket match on television/ movies, visiting picnic spots, found gossiping with their friends on their mobiles phone even in late hours, but during examination days all of sudden they stopped all these activities and seen worried for completion of their left over syllabus.
They are worried from both the sides i.e from their parent side, who have a lot of expectation from them that their wards should get through in the examination with good numbers/ position and secondly a fear cropped up in their mind that in case they will not keep well in the examination, they will be exposed in examination.
The examination do exert as unusual strain upon the mind of the students who lose all their zest for life at the time of examination. Tutors are engaged, notes and guess papers are purchased, special lecturers/ coaching classes are attended in this short period, besides they are taking all possible measures to set through in the examination. The reason as already said that in whole of the year they are paying a little heed to their studies.
Thus it is important for the parents too that they should ensure that their children begins their preparation before examination rather to wait till the last moment when examination starting knocking their doors, so that students may not face examination fever.
