Embracing Failure: A Path to Deeper Learning- Nishika Pathak

Productive Failure, a concept developed by Manu Kapur, is an instructional approach that highlights the learning value of initial setbacks. Instead of providing direct guidance right away, students are encouraged to engage with complex problems independently. This process allows them to recognise their own knowledge gaps, develop emotional involvement, and explore ideas collaboratively. The outcome is a deeper and more lasting understanding. This paper discusses the implementation of Productive Failure in a Class 3 English classroom, presenting an authentic classroom experiment, analysing student engagement data, and reflecting on the emotional and cognitive dimensions of learning through failure.
