Read the new edition of Read & Lead, our new look Weekly!

Books in search of shelf! by Sandeep Dutt

And it reminds me of Dibs in Search of Self!!

My focus was more on the Humanities section: Literature, Arts, History, Geography, Education, Sociology, Anthropology, and more. As a champion of a liberal arts curriculum, I find that reading history, philosophy, and even religion helps me reflect and think deeply. These weren’t the most interesting subjects in my teen years.

I examined nearly 100 books, tracing their history from the library index cards. Most had not been read and were not aged or yellowed. The librarian’s care and upkeep were evident in the absence of dust and the curated cataloguing, which made browsing and discovering the vast collection a seamless experience.

Starting with the arts, there were even books on architecture! It seems like there’s not much room for creative thinking, and most of us see art as just drawing and craft. But it’s actually visualisation—an expression of the heart and mind, and a way to think deeply.
