Beyond The Blackboard - Gurdeep Kaur

Differences exist, and it’s okay for them to exist. Understanding students' diverse needs is crucial for effective education. In business, we teach a concept called SLEPT analysis (Social, Legal, Economic, Political, Technological). This framework helps companies understand the market, scan the environment they operate in, understand their customers, and make informed decisions regarding marketing strategies, product design, and more.

Why not apply this same framework in our classrooms? Just like businesses analyze their customers’ needs to develop effective strategies, we can use SLEPT analysis in education to better meet the needs of our students.

• Social: Teachers must recognize that students come from diverse backgrounds. This understanding helps create an inclusive curriculum and address issues like bullying or mental health, fostering a supportive environment for all.
• Legal: Teachers must stay informed about educational laws, student rights, and safety, ensuring a fair and equitable learning environment for every student.
• Economic: By understanding students’ economic challenges, teachers can make the best use of available resources and provide additional support to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
• Political: Teachers should stay informed about educational policies and political stability and understand how these developments may affect their classrooms. (All teachers should read NEP 2020 for a better understanding.)
• Technological: After COVID, technology has transformed education, but access is still uneven. The digital divide persists. Teachers play a key role in bridging this gap by using tech tools equitably to ensure all students succeed.

Applying SLEPT analysis in education allows us to create an inclusive, equitable, and effective learning environment that prepares students for success in life. Let’s go beyond the blackboard.

Human resources must be considered both from the angle of assets and the liabilities connected with the attainment of economic development. For the attainment of economic development, proper utilization of both natural and human resources is very much essential.

Proper utilization of natural endowments and the level of production of national wealth depend very much on the extent and efficiency of human resources.

But too much population will again eat up all the fruits of development. Thus from the point of view of economic welfare, it is essential to study human resources in detail. It should be equally stressed that human beings are the vital instrument of production. At the same time, fruits of all economic activities are rested on the betterment of conditions of living of human beings.

Thus given its importance, it is quite essential to know both in quantitative and qualitative terms the size, rate of growth, composition, distribution, and all other demographic features of the population of India. The process of acquiring and increasing the number of persons who have skills, education, and experience is critical for the country's economic and political development.

In this modern world, where all the multimedia and communication facilities are available. Most of the parents want to provide their children with all the good facilities to bring them up in this competitive world. Because parents are aware of the tough competitions in education. 

Every parent wants to provide facilities to their children beyond their economic status because most of the families are living as nuclear families where very few members are there in the family and parents can provide all the facilities easily for their children. 

Sometimes children also feel that they deserve for and entitle to certain privileges because since their childhood they were getting all the facilities and things which they needed. Parents also feel that giving all the facilities for education is one of the best investment. But as a parent, we need to be very deliberate about the requirement of our child. We have to be careful about what kind of resources is useful for children. 

There are plenty of examples of the students those who did wonders without any resources. Sometimes children do not need multimedia facilities and internet connection because in their school libraries are full of resource books and actually they do not need any such facilities as it is also a source of distraction. In this situation children use these internet facilities for personal chatting and unwanted knowledge, as a result, they waste a lot of time. This is why it is so important for a child's development that parents and teachers work together for their requirements, their needs and foundation for their good education.

Bharti Rao: Do Schools Kill Creativity?

The Education System is based on the idea of Academic ability. Whether it is home or school everywhere you hear that if you want to get a job you need to show your academic ability; you need to have a degree. But this is not true, today if we go to see we see thousands of youngsters sitting unemployed at home. This is all due to Academic inflation. Degrees are worthless.

Current Education needs to change its role in the light of increasing importance being accorded to creativity. Steps in schools are being taken for the implementation of creativity in education.  In today’s world creativity is an important aspect of teaching and learning. Creativity is necessary for personal, economic, cultural and social reasons. It is not necessary to obtain success you need to have Academic Excellence. A child when born has some talent or capability and he can obtain success through his this talent or capability.

Creativity isn’t a test to take, a skill to learn, or a program to develop. Creativity is seeing things in new ways, breaking barriers that stood in front of you for some time. Creativity is the ability to make dreams come to life. In the education system, it is just a cycle of sitting still, memorizing, testing and getting jobs. Very few people have tried to challenge this and those who have done have made all the difference in their life like Albert Einstein, Walt Disney etc. Schools in today’s world need to implement more innovative and creative methods so that they may not destroy the fascinating and curious minds.
