Responsibility and Co-operation - FLYERS DGS

Responsibility means to accept that I am the reason and result of what I have done and what I am doing. The moment we take the responsibility of our own deeds in our lives, we can change the things in our lives. Because no one can live our lives and how much we try to blame others for our mistakes or deeds, it’s we who have made such choices or making such choices.

Cooperation means knowing or understanding one another. It means joining together to help others believe in something they might have just thought but could never have done. Cooperation is a joint effort that nobody can get in until unless everybody gets in. It is always observed that a group is much stronger than an individual.

Responsibility and cooperation go hand in hand, and it's evident from birth to death. With the responsibility of Parents comes cooperation of child instinctively. The same in a class when a teacher is teaching and similarly in any relationship or work life.  A person learns to be responsible when he or she completes a task and gets a sense of achievement.  Our environment plays a vital role in shaping our values. I believe a child gets a sense of responsibility when there are mutual effort and cooperation between the parents, the teachers and the child himself. A parent asking his child to take care of the younger sibling or organising his own cupboard. Likewise, a teacher assigning a small duty of distributing notebooks in the class or making the child a monitor for a day starts filling a child with responsibility. A responsible and cooperative person is admired by everyone. No individual has sufficient experience or education to achieve his aim without the co-operation of others.

A child is not born being a responsible one. Yes, exceptions are there, as some people are very responsible by nature, so definitely their children will also have some of their qualities. So, some children may show responsible behaviour in their childhood, but that will come in practice over a period and with some events & observations. The children and even we experience and observe many situations or events that help everyone become responsible individuals. Many times we observe others and our observations help us to become a responsible person. We experience many situations every minute, and it is we, who take decisions to be responsible for the consequences. Sometimes others experience help us to be more responsible in future.

Responsible people know that they have to take their duties seriously and cater to the world's demands, environment, society, country, children, family, and self. We can see an example of this right in front of us- the moment we were assigned the task of creating blogs, each month, we knew that it was our responsibility as a group to give our best and co-operate with each other. The JOL program is inculcating both responsibility, cooperation and a sense of team-spirit amongst us. Therefore, it is rightly said "Alone we are smart, together we are brilliant" - Steven Anderson.

Freedom and Peace - Byju Joseph

Freedom is the right to do what we want. But it does not mean that someone is completely
free to do anything. We lead our life by enjoying the freedom without hurting others. It is the way of living without unnecessary restrictions.  We respect others and their freedom to do their own necessities. Freedom depends on situations. It varies from person to person, culture to culture or nation to nation. In our country, we have the freedom to live by following their duties and responsibilities. Freedom is very important for everyone to work efficiently.

When we talk about freedom in school or in the classroom, we should consider that students have the right to freedom to learn. So we allow them to experience freedom in a positive manner. That means they are not allowed to do whatever they want. They should not misuse it but to utilize their freedom to perform their duties and responsibilities well. There must be a strong relationship between teachers and their students for better learning outcomes. The freedom that the students experience in the school should be based on mutual understanding and trust among them. There must be a line of control of freedom in between teachers and students which should be formed by trust and respect. It is very important for a peaceful learning atmosphere.

We all want to maintain a peaceful atmosphere wherever we are. It may be within us, at our workplaces, in our families or in our country. Peace is a state of being free from all worries. It comes from freedom. A tense mind never can be peaceful. Self-satisfaction is very important to maintain peace within us. Being educators we focus more on the character formation and overall development of children. Mahatma Gandhi said, “If you want real peace in the world, start with children.” Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon once said, “It is not enough to teach children to read, write and converse. We must teach them to have respect for themselves, for others and for the world in which we live.” It is very clear that the value, ‘respect’ is the essence to keep and promote peace. So it is very important to learn and experience self-respect and respect for others at an early stage of the life of each individual. School is the place where these values can easily be inculcated in children. In this regard, educators have the crucial role to plan and promote these values in children.

Simplicity and Trust - Nikita Rajpurohit

Simplicity refers to the quality of being simple. It means to be yourself, to be natural without any show-offs.  When we talk about simplicity, it can be living a comfortable life in a simple way like a simple lifestyle, simple dressing sense, simple food, etc. When we are simple, people feel comfortable to talk to us and it automatically generates trust.

Trust means to believe in oneself, others, etc. Where there is trust, there is no need to prove yourself right. It means to believe other’s words without asking for any evidence or proof. It is rightly said, " Trust is like a vase, once it is broken, it can never be the same again".To maintain every relationship, trust is required.  Trust can be built only when we listen to people, understand them without judging them. We need to inculcate these values in our students as it plays a major role in our life.

We, as educators, need to interact with students, understand them to build a good rapport. In the classroom, we need to use simple strategies to make students understand, like using simple language, converting theory into practice, play way methods, fun learning, etc. It has been a proven fact that these strategies help students to remember things for a long time. We can inculcate trust among students by giving them responsibilities. When they will be assigned some work, they will try their best to fulfil their duties and responsibilities and will maintain that trust which the teacher has shown on them.

I will share one classroom incident where simplicity and trust is depicted. When I joined the school and was made class teacher of VIII B, I appointed a monitor. But I observed that students were not listening to him. Then I kept changing monitors but still no change could I see. Then slowly with time, I observed a boy who was well-liked by all his classmates. He was, of course, naughty also. But still, I appointed him as the monitor.

I saw a change that in the absence of a teacher, he managed the class very well and carried out all his duties properly. I was really very happy to see him managing class so well that I appreciated him. As I showed trust in him and gave responsibilities, he also maintained that trust. So this is how we can build trust in a simplified manner.
