Honesty is not just about telling lies, but it is about being true to yourself and others. Honesty empowers us and promotes our openness. Honesty is a value which brings admiration and respect for you. If you are honest everyone will trust and believe you. We all are familiar with the saying, ‘Actions speak louder than words’. We need to be honest at our workplaces and show our integrity towards the management, staff and colleagues. We should always respect the emotions of others and lend an ear to others.

Communicating honestly and directly with one another helps to create harmonious and respectful relationships. If you are honest and respectful towards yourself, then only others will know that you understand what respect is. There are many instances when our students, colleagues and support staff exhibit their honesty and we respect them for their value.

During the pandemic period, Jeevaramji and Tejaji kept the school intact and thriving by honestly giving their services. Their love for the environment made them the real warriors of COVID-19. We respect them for their honesty. Bhavesh Choudhary from Class X volunteered for Scout and Guide Service Project. He distributed masks at his Village Lunava; these masks have been made at home out of his pocket money. We respect his family for encouraging him. I end by quoting,’ Respect is earned, Honesty is appreciated, Trust is gained, Loyalty is returned.’

Honesty cannot be  associated with monetary transactions alone, it is required in every

aspect of human life. For example, an honest factory worker will report on time, leave on time and will not waste precious work hours in gossip or doing non-productive work, not getting involved in any type of politics etc will always gain respect from his seniors, colleagues and subordinates. Now take another example of a country leader working long hours, taking decisions in the interest of his nation and people only, decisions on time, no scams and so on will make him win respect from countrymen and internationally.

As an individual, we need to be honest with our family, friends circle, society, workplace and nation and we will be winning respect from everyone. Being honest with your students will win you their respect, lot many times an educator come across a situation when a question asked by a student cannot be explained or answered or if explained, students are not able to understand, so an educator must honestly say that okay student we will try again /let me think today and will discuss it tomorrow, definitely, students will be impressed by your honesty and will start respecting you even more.

Respect is to be earned and cannot be gained forcefully.

Dr. Sarah Patel woke up at 6:00 a.m., got ready in no time, had her breakfast and left for work. On her way, she recalled her school days when she was in Grade 6. She would reach the school bus pick up point sharp at 6:45 a.m. Her friend Leena, standing second/third in queue, would call her ahead. Sarah preferred not to break the queue, as it would be unfair to the others, waiting. She would wait for her turn.

She was excited that day. She wanted to give the birthday card that she had made for her class teacher Ms. Lawrence. Ms. Lawrence was everyone's favourite. Nobody ever spoke out of turn in her class as they knew that they would all get an equal chance to speak.

It was a third Saturday, Open Day at school. Sarah went to school with her father. Ms. Lawrence greeted them  with a smile. Mr. Patel just nodded in return. In the next few minutes, his phone rang and without excusing himself, he answered the call. It was a call from him colleague to whom he said, "These teachers do not have any work, hence they call parents for open days on Saturdays!" Sarah's face fell. She looked at  Ms. Lawrence apologetically. The teacher's knowing smile carried the assurance that it was okay.

On the following Monday, Sarah had a letter for Ms. Lawrence. It said that she was sorry for her father's behaviour and that she loved and looked up to her teacher a lot. A stream of tears rolled down their cheeks as the teacher-student bound each other in a hug of mutual appreciation. Sarah had a lot of Respect for her teacher that made her apologize to her on behalf of her father. She was Honest enough to question her father's impermissible behaviour, without showing him any disrespect.

Dr. Sarah recalled this incident in minor details as she halted in front of her hospital. She took out her cell phone only to realise that Ms. Lawrence had called to wish her a 'Happy Birthday'!!! Even after all those years, they were bound by mutual love and appreciation.
