Humility and Appreciation - Flyers DGS

                                                             विद्या ददाति विनयम,

विनयम ददाति पात्रता।

Humility means being humble or grounded. It means putting others’ needs before our own and acknowledging that I am not always right. Humility enables us to stay open to new learning.  It prevents us from judging others, serves others and wins people. Humility makes us real & hopeful and gives us peace. Humility doesn’t mean to think about yourself, but to think less about yourself and more about others. It is the foundation stone of all the virtues. We cannot have a good personality if we are not humble. It helps us to think wisely. It means to appreciate others’ strengths and accept your mistakes or weaknesses.

Humble people do not try to impress others with titles, money, achievements, in fact, they just pull out the best in others. They are more responsible and handle stress more effectively.

Appreciation is a feeling of gratefulness. Appreciation makes us feel valued, responsible and acknowledged. It gives us confidence and motivates us to work hard. The word “appreciation” fills us with joy and zeal. It is difficult to work wholeheartedly in the absence of appreciation. Somewhere in the corner of our heart, we crave appreciation, it’s like medicine. But appreciation that is not real or honest loses its value. Only a real critic can honestly appreciate you.

One of our member shares, “Humility is the only virtue that can be practised in both success and failure. When I meet someone who radiates humility, my shoulder relaxes, my heart beats a little more quietly, and something inside me lets go. Why? Because I know that I'm being heard, fully seen and accepted for who I am. It allows my protective walls to come down. The same treatment I would like to give people who meet me or are in my circle. Humility allows us to make real-world. I accept the strengths and limitations of other people and of my own as well without defensiveness or judgement.

Appreciation has magical powers. I often appreciate things, behaviours and deeds that I want the person to repeat till it becomes his/her habit.  If there are some vices that I want the person to change, I appreciate his other qualities but remind him/her that his qualities are bigger than the small vices he/she has."

Another member writes, “A newly married girl once cooked a crooked shaped parantha for her father -in law for the first time she went inside the kitchen knowing deep inside that it was not as it should have been ... she apologized to her father-in-law while serving the same and also reassuring him that he would be served a perfect one next time as she did not know much of cooking... her HUMILITY! The father-in-law was all appreciation for the taste of parantha saying it was filled with love till the brim and he never had a better one till then ever...*quality of appreciation*!!

Today, the daughter -in law is the finest cook for family today.

Our humility teaches us to appreciate others’ qualities. One cannot appreciate anything until and unless one is humble. That means humility and appreciation go hand in hand.  Our Humility makes us approachable and Appreciation helps us to win hearts.

Courage and Patience - Manisha Deora

Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one. Courage means facing your own fears. We should have the courage to accept the challenges in our life. We should be able to stand up for what we know is right, even if we stand alone. We should encourage others to do the right thing even if peer pressure is against you. We should be brave when something scares us, like climbing a high wall, etc. We should be brave enough, to tell the truth even if it will get us into trouble and also have the courage to apologise when you know you have done something wrong.

We should be able to do something challenging and give it our beat, even when our fears tell you not to bother. We should have the courage to try something new in our life. We should have the courage to stand against our friends and family if we are being wrongly treated. Children should have the courage to speak in front of their classmates or the audience. Courage helps children gain their self-confidence. It enables a child to select right or wrong and to act according to his/her will. A child with moral courage sticks to his own principles does not compromise with evil forces. Patience is the ability to tolerate, waiting, delay or frustration without becoming upset. It is being able to control your emotions and proceed calmly. Patience is not losing your temper. Patience is following the rules and being calm. We should wait quietly. It is about controlling our frustration. Patience is making the right decision, eg - not by hitting but by walking away if we are angry or frustrated. We should be tolerant, especially with the younger siblings. It also means controlling our excitement and not interrupting when people are talking. We should wait for our turn to come in anything. If you have patience, it helps you to lead a simpler and happy life. We should help people understand that you can't always get everything you desire. You should have the patience for what you desire. The importance of patience should be realised by every individual. Life is about accepting the present moment. Patience is a virtue that everybody must possess. Patience makes us better people. To achieve your dreams, you must have the zeal to overcome challenges and the power to overcome comes only from patience. Patience is accepting other people as they are and it makes them tolerant. By being impatient, you suffer more than other people. If things are not going the way you want them to, instead of getting frustrated, you must learn to be patient. Courage and Patience- Bloom BHIS

Today I recall the Art Mela, of my former school, an event that was held two years ago. It was an amazing time. The preparation was in full swing. There was a lot of enthusiasm and zeal to make it a successful event.  Everyone wanted the show to be a grand success and hence contributed with 100% effort.

The Art Teacher had a lot of ideas on her mind, which she discussed with the Principal and the same were being conveyed to the teaching staff as well. As it was not one person's job alone, the ancillary staff,  teachers, students - all became an integral part of the preparation. The external faculties started pouring in and teaching various creative and innovative art-related skills to the students, who in turn, began to create their masterpieces for the Mela.  Decoupage, origami, doodling, coffee painting, woodcraft,  stone painting, clay moulding, you name it and it was all there.

It was my first teaching job. Naturally, I was immensely excited. Besides, I was put in charge of the origami bird hanging stall which had a team of 5 students to manage it.

Among these 5, there was a student name Radhika, who appeared to be very enthusiastic and full of life.  She was bold and could approach anyone and pull him/her to the stall. In sharp contrast, I also had the shy, introvert Ria on my watch. She was not comfortable with the assigned task at all.

She was new to the school. She said to me,  "Ma'am it's not my cup of tea,  I cannot do it! " I did not understand how to convince her as she seemed to have given up completely. I looked on Radhika for help. I told her to partner with Ria during the event. Radhika followed my cue and took Ria along as she moved around, talking to the guests (mainly parents and friends of the students), and welcomed them to visit our stall. Given her attractive personality, most visitors crowded around our stall.

By the end of the day, Ria seemed to have learnt something from her peer. Having started diffidently, she began to emulate Radhika. Despite her shyness, she could answer the queries posed to her. I was pleasantly surprised to see her interacting with the visitors, on her own.

It was a win-win situation for all.  I was successful in converting the shy Ria into a courageous individual. Once again the saying -"Where there is a will, there is a way", had turned out to be true.

Follow your passion - Nikita Rajpurohit

Passion is a deep liking to something that you are really interested in. Following your passion means exploring areas that spark your interest, developing your skills in a specific area, and using those skills to contribute to something beyond yourself. Understanding or finding one's passion is a long journey. Once you find out, they need to nurture it. All of us have a passion, you could either get it mastered or leave it like that. To get it mastered, it needs a lot of dedication, hard work and patience. Passion gives you a reason to keep learning and to work towards mastery. We all have an inner liking for some art or act, that really drives us crazy and we love doing it. We never get tired or bored in doing such art or acting.

Passion is very important to succeed in life because people who are passionate about what they do, rather than just "in it for the money," tend to be people who have more positive outlooks and are able to overcome difficulty through problem-solving. You cannot become rich or achieve any other kind of success in life if you don’t have passion in your life or passion about what you are doing. Be it the simplest thing or the most sophisticated thing, you need passion in order to succeed.

“When work, commitment, and pleasure all become one and you reach that deep well where passion lives, nothing is impossible.”

Passion drives motivation which helps to do the work with zeal and enthusiasm. It also helps to generate new ideas because when we love something to do, we always try to make it the best in a creative manner to enhance quality. So during this pandemic situation, when we have got enough time to explore ourselves,  we all must try to find our hidden talents and be passionate about something. Last but not the least, do what you love to do and live your life with Passion.
