Humility and Appreciation - Samridhi RPKM

When someone has humility, it means that they have a humble or modest view of themselves. In other words, they don’t think they’re the centre of the universe.

A famous quote about humility reads, “Humility is not denying your strengths, humility is being honest about your weaknesses.” Our students can do a self-reflection exercise on humility by journaling about their strengths, weaknesses, and humility.

We can give our students a lesson on intellectual humility. This humility type is the acknowledgement that you don’t know everything. Developing this type of humility can be especially important for our students who are constantly expanding their knowledge.

Be an example of humility: As in anything, our students will imitate our behaviour. The more we can live in a humble way, the more our students will absorb from us.

We can build our students up and teach them where their true value lies: most of the time, when students are looking for attention, it is because they are not receiving enough feedback or positive attention. The more that we can give them honest, positive feedback, the better.

Also, teach them that their value does not lie in what they have or what they do, but in who they are. This way, we can teach our students the truth about themselves. Coach them on how to respond to praise. Just as we teach them to say “Please” and “Thank you,” we need to teach students the appropriate, humble response to praise. The more prepared they are, the more graciously they can respond.

Don’t confuse “humility” with “humiliation.” Try not to humiliate the students. Humiliation does not help, since it is something that can hurt a child rather than help teach the lesson of humility. If the students need correction, be sure to correct them, but in a way that is as loving, patient and personal as possible. This can help prevent the harm and resentment that intentional humiliation breeds.

We need to teach our students to serve. Among the many activities we do with our students are some that imply service. There are so many ways we can serve, and so many people that need simple acts of service: the poor, the elderly, family members, friends or classmates. If you are able to incorporate various “service projects” into your life, service will become a habitual behaviour for your students, and they will be more sensitive and open to the needs of others.

Appreciation is the act of recognizing and valuing someone's efforts, qualities, or achievements. In the classroom, it can be a powerful tool for fostering a positive learning environment and encouraging student growth.

Here's how we can use it in the classroom:

  • Encourage Effort: Appreciate students for their hard work and perseverance, even if they haven't achieved perfect results. This motivates them to keep trying.
  • Recognize Achievements: Celebrate students' successes, both big and small. Acknowledge their accomplishments to boost their self-esteem.
  • Feedback: Provide specific and constructive feedback, highlighting what students did well. This reinforces positive behaviour and helps them understand their strengths.
  • Peer Appreciation: Encourage students to appreciate each other's contributions, creating a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere. Appreciation can have a significant positive impact on students in various ways:
  • Motivation: When students feel appreciated for their efforts and achievements, it can boost their motivation to excel academically and socially.
  • Self-esteem: Genuine appreciation can help students develop healthy self-esteem, as they learn to value themselves and their abilities.
  • Engagement: Students who receive recognition for their contributions tend to be more engaged in the learning process and are more likely to participate actively in class.
  • Confidence: Appreciation can build students' confidence in their abilities, making them more willing to take on challenges and persevere through difficulties.

Teachers play a crucial role in showing appreciation towards students. Here are ways in which teachers can effectively express appreciation:

  • Celebrating diversity: Recognize and appreciate the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and talents that each student brings to the classroom.
  • Positive reinforcement: Use positive reinforcement techniques to reward good behaviour and academic achievements.
  • Open communication: Keep the lines of communication open, allowing students to express their thoughts, concerns, and ideas freely.
  • Empathy: Show empathy and understanding towards students' challenges and difficulties, offering support and encouragement.
  • Surprise gestures: Occasionally, surprise students with small gestures of appreciation, such as handwritten notes or awards for outstanding performance.

By actively practising these strategies, teachers can create a classroom environment where students feel valued and appreciated, which can have a profound impact on their motivation, self-esteem, and overall learning experience.

Humility and Appreciation- Ashtalakshmi RPKM

Being humble is basically about reflecting maturity. A person who is humble deserves to be the first role model for everyone who wants to evolve into a better individual in the future, and for those who want to sculpt their personalities into something ‘good’.

Humility is the best value a student can imbibe. I, as a teacher, try my best to imbibe; some good values into my students, so as to make them understand the importance of practicing values in their day-to-day lives.

I would like to share an amazing and inspiring incident as I trudge down memory lane. It was a bright day and I could sense that my students were dreading the Monday. So I decided to make things interesting for them.

It was their English period, and I took them to the school playground. Confusion, laced with fascination flashed through their faces, as they saw some balls scattered all over the ground. I decided to make them learn the synonyms and antonyms of some words; on the balls were written some pairs of the same (antonym on one and synonym on one). They all had to find the other pairs of each word and put the balls together. There was a time limit of 10 minutes under which they had to do the task.

I could hear excited murmurs all around me as they started to perform the task. I couldn’t believe that everyone was calmer than I had imagined them to be, the teamwork and humbleness were at their peak.

Everyone was helping each other find the pairs; if someone found one and the other found another they would shout what they found and put them together. Some students couldn’t find the pairs as they did not know their meaning, the others did not tease them for not knowing the synonyms and antonyms. I felt so proud that my students followed what I told them to, and that they were so humble with each other. The students who could not complete the task even came to me to apologize, that they would learn the topic thoroughly and wouldn’t repeat the mistakes again.

Such sincerity and humility in my students made me feel extremely proud, as I appreciated each and every one of them for the amazing achievement they made in such a small activity like this.

I would like to share another incident that happened. It was a pleasant day, but not so pleasant for the students as I was going to distribute their answer sheets back so that they could see what mistakes they had made and how they could correct them.

I observed the students as they cross-checked their answer sheets once again, some faces looking satisfied, some disappointed, and some horrified; until one student made her way towards my table. I inquired if she was facing any problems. She told me that I had overmarked her answer sheet and that she wanted me to deduct her marks. I halted, as I looked at her in astonishment.

I had never encountered a student coming to me to get their ‘marks’ deducted, although I had seen many trying to make them ‘increase’. I deducted the marks, and I then decided to announce what she did to the other students. The student got shy as I asked everyone to clap for her for her honesty; the student rightly deserved that. I appreciated that student once again as she went back to her seat.

I can never forget those days, when I made my students learn that being humble can make us achieve everything that we want to, including gaining love and trust from everybody who gets to encounter the values you possess.

One day I kept a glass jar in my class and asked my students to think of at least three things throughout their day that they are grateful for and the most important step that this will be repeated every day. It can be something as small as a coffee at your favourite place, or as grand as the time you spent with your friend or someone you really care about. I asked them to do this every day, write down what they are grateful for on little slips of paper and fill the jar. I told them that over time, you will find that you have a jar full of different reasons to be thankful for what you have and enjoy the life you are living. It also will cultivate a practice of expressing thanks.

Humility - Nikita Rajpurohit

Humility is the quality of being humble. It also means putting the needs of others before your own and thinking of others before yourself. This quality has to be a part of one’s character. It begins with accepting who we are and what makes us human. It has to start with the recognition that we are not always right, we can be wrong at some point in time, and we need to learn from others.

A humble person is an eye-catcher in this era of selflessness, where everybody screams for themselves and avoid others completely. A humble person is always loved, appreciated and respected by others.

We often see that it is easy to be humble when we are at the low stage, but many of us lose this quality when we progress and achieve something in life. A person should not make others feel inferior and consider himself superior. Otherwise, we will start feeling avoided by the people around us. We can often notice the difference in the size of a friend circle of a humble person v/s a selfish or rude person.

Being a teacher, we need to inculcate this value among our children, but this only happens when we are humble towards others; children always learn by doing and seeing the people around them. We can also share some examples of great leaders (Mother Teresa) who were admired and respected only because of this humbleness.
Let me put an end by saying that 'Always be like the bamboo. The higher you grow, the deeper you bow.'

Humility - Prerna Rathod

Humility means being humble. You respect others and are always down to earth. It is one of the important values which helps us to build our character. When a person is humble, he is loving, caring, helpful, patient towards others while dealing with them. He will always think of others and do what is good for them. He will never be angry with anyone or will never make fun of others or laugh at them. He will be empathetic towards others and do what is best for them and understand others' feelings. A humble person will never have an ego problem. He will always remain happy in good or bad situations.

As Educator, it is our duty that we should try to teach students to be humble and teach them its importance. This value will help them to be sensitive towards the society and environment. Thus, it will help to build a good society. He will be a good citizen of our country. This will help him to take the correct decisions in life and be successful. Humility helps us to build different values, which are an essential part of life. Each one of us must be humble in our life to lead a better and happy life.

Humility and Appreciation - Achievers JMMS

HUMILITY

" Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them to come up".

Humility is the quality of not thinking that you are better than others. It is humble towards everyone. It means understanding the pains, delights and needs of others and taking their problems as your own.

Humility means not drawing attention to yourself but to others. It is the attitude that you have no special importance that makes you better than others or lacks pride. For example, when we are in some competition with others and win the competition, we should say them 'good work' rather than saying you have lost.

Humility is the most important asset which can be used for self-improvement. It is helpful for inner well being. It is important to value to become a better human being.

APPRECIATION

"Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy. They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."

Appreciation means motivating someone. It understands that something is valuable and important. It is the feeling of gratitude towards someone. For example, in the class, we should use good words for children to motivate them. We should never demoralize students for anything. We should appreciate them for short things or for the short task which they do.

Humility and Appreciation

The low sweet root from which all heavenly virtues shoot,  that's HUMILITY.

Humility is the quality of being humble. It is a quality of being humbly respectful of others. It is that self-respect that keeps us away from thinking too highly or too meanly of ourselves.

Humility makes us modest and always reminds us how far we have come in life and what more we can do. Humility is an important virtue or trait that every person should have.

Everyone deserves respect and a word of kindness, which has nothing to do with profession, age or gender.

The value of humility should be taught to the children to learn to show humility and respect to every person they come across then, be it teachers, elders, classmates, or the helping staff. So, when they grow up and become something, they will remember all those people who had a hand in their success, from the teachers who inspired them to the helping staff who helped them and kept the school clean. They will learn to value everyone's contribution and appreciate their efforts.

Appreciation- This word is the most powerful word for motivating someone. If someone gets appreciated for a certain task, they always give their best in further tasks.

Here is a story by a teacher - There was a boy in her class was really shy and reserved in nature. He never showed much interest in the studies.

One day during a free period, the teacher noticed a rhythmic sound in her class; she looked here and there while everyone else was busy talking and playing; this boy was sitting in the corner and beating the table. She was quite amazed to see the way his hands were moving like he was playing the tabla. She started clapping for him when other students saw her; they also started cheering for him. The boy felt a sense of accomplishment and was happy how everyone appreciated him. The students then told the teacher that the boy plays the table whenever he gets free time. The teacher found his talent and had a conversation with the music teacher, and soon the child started taking tabla classes, and within a month, the child started playing the tabla in the school choir.

Getting appreciated is an amazing feeling that every person wants to experience. It is the greatest emotional need of a person. Being told you are appreciated is one of the most motivating, inspiring, empowering and encouraging things one can hear.

When someone appreciates you, it means that the person believes in you, understands you and has recognised something valuable or maybe found your potentials which you had always underestimated.

When you are encouraged as a child, you grow up into an adult who has a sense of confidence.

Quite often, we underestimate the power of a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Humility and Appreciation - Aspiration JMMS

Humility is one of the most powerful and important growth attributes both in and out of the ring. Being humble helps to built trust and facilities learning.

Appreciation is a quality to respect, value and recognising good qualities in everyone. Both these quantities are key aspects of leadership and personal development and especially important in schools.

Nelson Mandela once said, " the first thing is to be honest with yourself. You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself. Great peacemakers are all people of integrity of honesty but humility.

Aspiration JMMS has a story that illustrates the importance of these two values beautifully. It is à story of विनम्र घास. Who is very humble, gentle, and never complains about any thing. His silence is appríciated by all the flowers in the garden. Heré, the quality of humility ànd appreciation, is shown by all the flowers toward the grass.

Aspiration JMMS @John Martyn Memorial School, Salangaon, Dehradun - Renu Raturi, Sandhya Thadani, Sonali Sharma and Asha Bhandari: a story about Humility and Appreciation, the teachers share the joy of learning with a story about how nature shows the best of the two values.

Learning Forward India Academy Cohort of 2020-21 is exploring the future of education, built on immutable values alone: Appreciation, Caring, Co-operation, Courage, Freedom, Friendship, Happiness, Honesty, Hope, Humility, Love, Patience, Peace, Quality, Respect, Responsibility, Simplicity, Thoughtfulness, Tolerance, Trust, Understanding & Unity.

Humility and Appreciation - Flyers DGS

                                                             विद्या ददाति विनयम,

विनयम ददाति पात्रता।

Humility means being humble or grounded. It means putting others’ needs before our own and acknowledging that I am not always right. Humility enables us to stay open to new learning.  It prevents us from judging others, serves others and wins people. Humility makes us real & hopeful and gives us peace. Humility doesn’t mean to think about yourself, but to think less about yourself and more about others. It is the foundation stone of all the virtues. We cannot have a good personality if we are not humble. It helps us to think wisely. It means to appreciate others’ strengths and accept your mistakes or weaknesses.

Humble people do not try to impress others with titles, money, achievements, in fact, they just pull out the best in others. They are more responsible and handle stress more effectively.

Appreciation is a feeling of gratefulness. Appreciation makes us feel valued, responsible and acknowledged. It gives us confidence and motivates us to work hard. The word “appreciation” fills us with joy and zeal. It is difficult to work wholeheartedly in the absence of appreciation. Somewhere in the corner of our heart, we crave appreciation, it’s like medicine. But appreciation that is not real or honest loses its value. Only a real critic can honestly appreciate you.

One of our member shares, “Humility is the only virtue that can be practised in both success and failure. When I meet someone who radiates humility, my shoulder relaxes, my heart beats a little more quietly, and something inside me lets go. Why? Because I know that I'm being heard, fully seen and accepted for who I am. It allows my protective walls to come down. The same treatment I would like to give people who meet me or are in my circle. Humility allows us to make real-world. I accept the strengths and limitations of other people and of my own as well without defensiveness or judgement.

Appreciation has magical powers. I often appreciate things, behaviours and deeds that I want the person to repeat till it becomes his/her habit.  If there are some vices that I want the person to change, I appreciate his other qualities but remind him/her that his qualities are bigger than the small vices he/she has."

Another member writes, “A newly married girl once cooked a crooked shaped parantha for her father -in law for the first time she went inside the kitchen knowing deep inside that it was not as it should have been ... she apologized to her father-in-law while serving the same and also reassuring him that he would be served a perfect one next time as she did not know much of cooking... her HUMILITY! The father-in-law was all appreciation for the taste of parantha saying it was filled with love till the brim and he never had a better one till then ever...*quality of appreciation*!!

Today, the daughter -in law is the finest cook for family today.

Our humility teaches us to appreciate others’ qualities. One cannot appreciate anything until and unless one is humble. That means humility and appreciation go hand in hand.  Our Humility makes us approachable and Appreciation helps us to win hearts.

Humility and Appreciation - Triumph DGS

A HUMBLE STUDENT IS BETTER THAN A PROUD TEACHER

Being a teacher sometimes we start considering ourselves as the owner of the students. We are filled with a feeling of arrogance and insolence while treating them. On the other hand, a humble student will never react to this unexpected behaviour of a teacher.

Sujata was rebuked by me for reporting on time for the rehearsal of the play. So annoyed, I was that I did not let her enter into the hall. The anger and bitterness she faced from me that day brought tears to her eyes but she did not utter a single word. The period got over and I carried on with the usual routine.

The next day I was informed by one of my co-teachers that Sujata’s name has been recommended for the Uttarakhand Natya Academy.

The meetings for the same had been going on in the principal’s office for the last few days. This was the reason for her not reporting on time to me. Realizing my mistake, without delay I went to her in the field. The moment she saw me, she rushed toward me and hugged me. “This is just because I have an amazing teacher like you, ma’am,” she said,

“Thank you for always guiding me, I dedicate this award to you”  I was speechless.

HUMBLENESS HELPS YOU EARN APPRECIATION

This virtue of HUMILITY in her earned all the APPRECIATION from me. The appreciation for her for being so modest, for not boasting about the recognition she was to get.

I shared the entire incident in the class and motivated to be like that all her life. She was valued and appreciated by her class mates also for her humbleness.

Today Sujata is a theatre artist and performs all over the world. She is renowned, famous, rich but most important still ‘HUMBLE’ and ‘APPRECIATED’ more for this than anything else.

Humility - Manisha Deora

Courtesy: fordhaminstitute.com

Humility is the state of being humble. It is a virtue. It is the quality of keeping one’s self under control. It is the opposite of being proud. A person who possesses this quality is humble and meek. A humble person is the master of himself. He is not stubborn. He is ready to accept other people’s advice and learn from their experience. He is not annoyed with anybody. A proud person gets angry easily when something offends him.

A humble person does not get angry easily. He admits his mistakes and shortcomings politely. A proud person does not admit his faults easily. He gets annoyed and blames others for his own mistakes. A proud person is stubborn and angry. He does not value another person’s suggestions and ideas. We must make our children humble in life because it spreads harmony among people. Humility makes a person more sensitive to understand other situations. So first we have to be humble towards children if we want them to be humble with others.

Unity and Caring - Monika Vaishnav

Unity is togetherness or the feeling of oneness.  When we help, listen, support and cooperate with each other, we can easily achieve our goals.  Unity is where, when we have different opinions about different things but still, we understand the differences and respect and appreciate it and stand by each other.

Unity gives us the strength to do any task, it doesn't matter how difficult it is. When we get something by doing it alone, that will make us happy but when we achieve something in a group or team, that makes us happier. Our happiness and joy of success will be increased as we can see the same smile on everyone's face in a team and even if we fail to get something we worked for, unity decreases our sadness and develops hope among us.  A person can work hard and gain his personal goals but when we want something for the whole community or country, we need to be united and deal with the things unitedly.

Unity helps a person to think more as we instead of I. It helps us to become more polite in life and let
down our egos. It is easy to make decisions when we are united. We need unity everywhere whether it is about a family, school, class, hospital, country etc.  Unity leads to cooperation, understanding and coordination and without it, we can't work together. We must have a strong connection and trust to be untied. It belongs to equality which makes us stronger and gives equal opportunity to all.

Caring is one of the purest forms of expressing love and respect.  Whom we love or respect, we care for that person without expecting anything in return.  It is the willingness to do something happily for someone not by force. If we care for anyone whether at home or workplace, we will also be looked after by them but we can't ask anyone to care for us as it is an internal feeling that makes a person help or do something for someone. Caring makes us more humble and kind towards anyone. It gives energy to any relationship and makes it stronger.  A caring person is more responsible and satisfied in life.

Children learn how to care for others from their surroundings, so we should take care of them when they are with us and make them understand how important it is to take care of our dear ones and our surroundings because that is necessary to create a healthy and happy environment for us.  Looking at this modern era, we must make our children understand how much they are looked after by their parents  and they should take care of them when they really need it. We all can't ignore nature, we must care for the animals and the environment around us for a better world. We can say caring is another word for humanity.

Humility and Appreciation - Sharmila Vijayvargi

The two values are most important in shaping one’s life and instilling feelings of confidence, motivation in others.  For this post, I have tried to depict the importance of these two values by way of a few lines:
NEVER BE BOASTFUL
Those who are virtuous
Never boast of their worth.
Simple, modest and humble,
Like them, who's there on earth?
If you’re good
                                        And you do good,
                                      It’ll reflect in your deeds.
                               Never, never be boastful, indeed.

We should always acknowledge that nothing on earth is permanent – wealth, power or beauty. Pride leads to a fall; vanity leads to folly. NEVER be boastful of your possessions. If we look around, we will find that the greatest people around us were never boastful but were humble, simple and down to earth people. Similarly, we should also inculcate humility in our deeds and show it to students and others around us. Let your actions speak louder than your words. ALWAYS BE HUMBLE AND SIMPLE.
APPRECIATE OTHERS
Others need appreciation, too
As much as I do.
I must acknowledge and appreciate
Others for their love and care,
For the joys and sorrows, they share with me,
For understanding and accepting me as I am.
One word of appreciation can make their hearts
Glow with happiness and mine, too.
Appreciation boosts our self-esteem, confidence and enthusiasm to do and be better still. Appreciation makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.

Humility and Appreciation - Swabhi Parmar

Humility is the quality of being humble and means putting the needs of another person before your own, and thinking of others before yourself. It also means not drawing attention to yourself, and it can mean acknowledging that you are not always right. Humility is often characterized as genuine gratitude and lack of arrogance, a modest view of one’s self. To be humble, we must have faith that God will lead us in the best way to live.

In every aspect of life,  we should be humble to every living being on this planet. This attribute can make us stand different from others. We can have many examples of the people who had humble qualities in their lives and they stood different and they were loved by all. For example:- Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and so on. You should have the ability to embrace humility in real life and this could only come to you when you appreciate the efforts of others.

Both the values of humility and appreciation are interconnected to each other. Appreciation can do wonders. It can motivate a person to a great extent. It can make a person work to its full productivity as it is a fact that every person in the institution has enormous potential in different areas. Appreciation can be characterized by interest, attention, devotion and friendliness. A humble person gets maximum appreciation in life.

Humility and appreciation go hand in hand. By getting proper appreciation, we feel like we are important in other people’s lives. We all need to be noticed and valued. Appreciation is the core of every healthy relationship and Humility is self-awareness and empathy and these things are in short supply these days but if we have them then they are truly helpful. So we should be humble and appreciate every one. We should try and appreciate small acts of kindness. We should inculcate good values in us before we expect it from others. This is the key to real happiness.

Humility and Appreciation - Monika Vaishnav

Humility is the state of being humble in life. Humility develops respect for others and makes us more polite and genuine in life. It is an ability to give up pride and still maintain our dignity. Humility is the foundation of leadership, if the leader is not humble, he wouldn't listen to others, hence the people will neither cooperate nor support him and there will be complexity in coordination.

We must help children to develop humility in themselves. We should teach them to understand themselves as well as others. We should never humiliate any child,  it develops hatred. We should teach them to apologize when they are wrong. We should train them on how to respond when they disagree with something and how to keep their point of view politely with dignity.

Appreciation is admiring or praising someone's great work. It is a token of motivation for doing good work. It inspires people to keep doing something good in life. Appreciation develops hope in us. It gives strength and helps someone who is not good at something to accept challenges and make a big difference in life. Every small work of an individual should be appreciated. If someone's effort is not appreciated or ignored, that person may lose his enthusiasm and will not give his best.

It is also important to understand that people who are appreciated should not be overly confident or proudly, we should be humble, otherwise our pride shall create obstacles on the way to success.

Appreciation is a feeling that fills our mind and heart with joy, honour and gives the energy to keep doing good deeds in life. So, we must remember to appreciate even small work or effort done by the students. It helps them to improve in the area where the child is not good at and to enhance the skills where they are good at.

Humility and Appreciation - Bharti Rao

Humility is the mother of all virtues. It means to be humble and take care and think of others than your own self. If you are humble and down to earth you create a peaceful and healthy environment. Humble people always see better things in everyone, when someone makes any mistakes they forgive them. Humility is a difficult trait as you need to think about others and not boast about yourself and say ‘I’ every time. Instead, we should learn to give the credit to our teammates for success even though we have the ability to do it yourself.
Great Leaders like Mr Ratan Tata, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, A.G.P. Abdul Kalam etc. are the personalities who possess these attributes. If any institution wants to grow, the head and staff need to change themselves and be humble. Humbleness helps us to connect with the community. If we embrace the quality of humility, then only we will be able to appreciate others’ efforts. If you inculcate this quality, you will be apologetic for the mistakes you commit. Appreciation is the trait where you show gratitude, praise others and give recognition to other’s work. This quality helps to develop a feeling of togetherness.

An educator plays a very important role in shaping a child’s personality and this can only be possible if he is humble and understandable. Appreciation plays an important role in a student’s life. If a child is appreciated he feels motivated. This motivation and appreciation bring enthusiasm and excitement to complete his task. Educators are always the role models of their students. If their educator possesses these qualities, then the child tends to inculcate these qualities in them. I end with quoting the words of Gordon B. Hinckley,” Being Humble means recognizing that we are not on Earth to see how important we can become but to see how much difference we can make in the lives of others”.

Humility and Appreciation - Byju Joseph

Humility is a humble nature to be possessed by everyone. It is one of the personality
traits. A humble person will always be loved and respected by others. He never expects any reward from others for doing any favour. We can observe this virtue in all great people.  Humility has its own attractive power. Humility in a person can make several changes in others. There was a real incident in Mother Teresa’s life. When she was serving in the slums of Calcutta she had some orphan children with her.

One day it happened that they did not have anything to eat. Mother Teresa called the children and told them, “We have nothing to eat today. So let’s pray to God, He will give something to us.’ After a while, she told them, “Come let us go and start to beg. The children followed her. She saw a shopkeeper and humbly asked him to give something to eat. But the shopkeeper hated Mother Teresa and he angrily spits saliva on her palm. She slowly wiped the saliva with her sari and said, “Thank you for what you have given for me. Will you give something to my children?” The shopkeeper was astonished at these words. He was shocked at the humility of Mother Teresa. He apologized for his misbehaviour. At that time onward he changed entirely and started helping the orphan children and it continued regularly. This is one of the most heart-touching real examples of humility.

Humility is a golden value which always entitles appreciation. The person who is humble will be appreciated everywhere. When we appreciate anyone, we value him and respect him. Appreciation is a beautiful gift that we can give to others for their service. It provides happiness and satisfaction to them and the same effect will be there towards us.

Being educators it is our duty to inculcate these values in our children. But these cannot be taught by lecturing. Teachers are role models for them. They are copying the behaviour, attitude and personality of teachers. So it is very important to be humble enough for them. For their minute contributions and humble acts, appreciation is important. We should appreciate them and make them aware that they are precious in their life.  Then they also will learn to appreciate others. These attempts will surely motivate them and that will inspire them to do many useful things in their life.

Humility and Appreciation - Prakash Dangi

Humility is the most important in our behaviour. It means humble behaviour. If anyone has more qualities but if he doesn't possess humility in his behaviour then the quality of the person will be negligible. You cannot win the heart of anybody and cannot live peacefully in life. Daily we meet a large number of people, they show us humility in behaviour, and those people easily complete any work successfully. Humility is the most important value for the school environment because without humility we cannot build a healthy environment in school. It is necessary for good relations between teacher and student. I will give an example that the trees full of fruits always face downward to the earth. This shows humble behaviour and people like it.

Humility is important for our growth. If Gandhi is an example of what a humble leader can accomplish, then society serves to benefit from this kind of governance. We take another example of Sachin Tendulkar. He is one great cricket player the world respects and admires. He holds so many world records. Yet he has remained a humble person in spite of his international achievements. As students, we need to remember that we should exhibit humility to learn. Only when we have humility will we have the courage to ask the teacher again and again till we are satisfied that we have understood. The word “Appreciation” looks smaller from outside but it can help achieve anything if used properly. This word is the most powerful word for motivating someone. If someone gets appreciated for a certain task then that person always gives the best in all further tasks. This word is motivational, carrying a huge power inside and can turn negative thoughts into positive. Many organizations and schools are known for their culture of appreciation. This is the main reason behind the happiness of their employees. Appreciation can increase the inner power of anyone. Everyone in this world loves to receive appreciation for their tasks. If someone has done something for you then saying thank you is a formality. But if you provide motivational words like “good work”, “keep it up” or “excellent” along with the thank you then next time that person works with twice the energy. As same in school when the student completes his work on time and teachers motivate the students by saying " good work" or " wonderful " or "excellent" along with thanking you then next time that student work with twice the energy. Even not only students but teachers also want appreciation from their seniors and principal. It is not only limited to workplaces but it can be used anywhere. Therefore it is necessary to appreciate a person whenever possible. It is a good way to make things easier and simpler. If appreciation is used properly, benefits are assured. Trust and Simplicity - Kavita Devda

Trust means  "To believe".  If you believe in something or someone, then you should have confidence in them. To gain someone's trust we must be believable so that they will have confidence in our ability to keep up our word.  Simplicity means being simple. We should observe simplicity in life and believe in simple living and high thinking. We need to be simple, sweet, polite and humble while talking to others. We should never lose our temper. We can take simple and nourishing food to keep our body healthy and fit. We should be simple while selecting our clothes and wear according to the environment and seasons.

A short incident happened to my nephew who lives in Bengaluru.  His name is Suresh and he is an electrician. He leads a very simple life with his family. In January 2020  his uncle became serious in Rajasthan. He booked a tatkal train ticket and boarded the train on Monday evening at 5.30 pm. He was alone travelling and his family was in Bengaluru itself.  Next to his seat, four more passengers boarded the train after 2 hours.  They saw that  Suresh was alone and wanted to become friends.  They offered tea and some snacks to Suresh, but he did not have as they were strangers to him. After some time they were having dinner. They offered to him also but he refused to have as he had his own tiffin with him.

At 10 pm those passengers started playing cards game. They told Suresh to join the game.  Anyhow he was alone so he thought it might not be risky to play with them and soon he joined them. By 11.30 pm they all became good friends and enjoyed playing and discussing their destinations. By next morning they became so close that they started sharing their family matters. On the same evening, those four passengers after the dinner planned a trick and bought cold drinks for everyone. They added something in Suresh's bottle but he didn't know about this.

By 11 pm almost everyone went to sleep. Suresh also slept and he fainted. Soon these four passengers removed the gold chain, earrings, finger ring, watch and his purse and took them.  He had some cash in his pocket. They took that and got down to the next station at 1.30 am in the night. Next morning at 6 is when Suresh woke up and saw all these things and complained to the police about this incident.  He said that it was my mistake that I trusted those strangers. So always be careful before trusting someone while travelling alone.

Simplicity and Trust - Byju Joseph

Simplicity means simple in all aspects and it is the way to live in a society. It is a precious quality to be possessed by each one of us. It is the humble nature of a person. The person who leads a simple life is always humble in his actions. We can find it not only in his appearance but also in his entire behaviour. He always considers others and gives chances to others without thinking of his own profit. He always tries to avoid luxurious life and satisfies with the basic essential resources.

It is not an easy thing to be simple at every time for everyone. Self-control and strong will power are needed to be simple. At the same time, courage and patience are also essential to lead a simple life. Simplicity leads to kindness. Our former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri was famous for his simplicity. Although he had all facilities and power he never used his office car for personal purposes. He took out a loan to buy a car for his family. The life of our former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is another example of simplicity. He never wished to earn money and properties. His last belongings were some clothes, a watch and books only.
Trust means a strong belief in someone. It is the base of a relationship. Each and every relationship is built on trust. Being human beings we have relations with others. To make the relationship strengthen, trust is very important. Friendships, families, companies, institutions or any such firms exist on trust. It is time-consuming, it takes much time to be created but it takes a moment to be destroyed. So it should be taken care of. In any way, if it breaks, everything will be in vain.  So it is very important to build trust among all stakeholders and it should be strengthened day by day by our actions in an effective way.
Simplicity is an integral part to develop and nurture trust everywhere. Trust among each individual in a firm is very important for success. As an example, in a school, the principal has the trust of each teacher and that’s why he/she designates each teacher for a particular class to teach. Students and their parents also have trust in teachers. Trust is a bonding and it is developed among students, parents, teachers and management. This bonding becomes stronger by the attitude, behaviour, hard work, dedication, understanding etc. of the stakeholders.
As role models, if teachers show simplicity at all times, students will follow and practice it. This simplicity gradually leads to the formation of trust and the same will help the students for their character formation. Teachers’ satisfaction lies in their students' bright future. So let us work hard to achieve the same.
