War vs Peace - Aakash Agrawal

Schools are designed to be sanctuaries of learning, growth, and development. But beneath the surface of textbooks and classrooms, a constant struggle plays out: the battle between war and peace. This isn't a literal war with weapons, but a metaphorical one fought with words, actions, and attitudes, impacting the very soul of the school ecosystem.

The Seeds of War:

"War" in this context represents the negative forces that can disrupt the harmony of a school environment. These can include:

* Bullying: Physical, verbal, or cyberbullying creates a climate of fear and intimidation, undermining students' sense of safety and belonging.

* Cliques and Exclusion: Social divisions and exclusion can lead to feelings of isolation and alienation, hindering students' ability to connect with their peers.

* Discrimination: Prejudice based on race, religion, gender, or other factors can create a hostile environment, denying students equal opportunities and respect.

* Teacher-Student Conflict: Power imbalances and communication breakdowns can lead to strained relationships, hindering effective learning and creating resentment.

* Academic Pressure: Excessive focus on grades and competition can create anxiety and stress, undermining students' well-being and love of learning.

The Pursuit of Peace:

"Peace," on the other hand, embodies the positive forces that foster a nurturing and supportive school environment. These include:

* Empathy and Kindness: Encouraging students to understand and appreciate each other's perspectives fosters compassion and respect.

* Inclusion and Diversity: Celebrating diversity and creating a welcoming environment for all students promotes a sense of belonging and acceptance.

* Conflict Resolution: Teaching students healthy ways to resolve conflicts peacefully equips them with essential life skills and reduces aggression.

* Positive Teacher-Student Relationships: Building strong, supportive relationships between teachers and students creates a foundation of trust and mutual respect.

* Collaborative Learning: Encouraging teamwork and cooperation fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility for learning.

Conclusion- The struggle between "war" and "peace" within our schools is a constant, subtle, yet incredibly impactful dynamic and is a necessary evil.

What Makes A School? - Paul Puthvenveetil Variath

I would look at schools as holistic well-being centres where children are taught how they wish to learn, addressing not only academic needs but also mental health, physical fitness, and social development. This approach fosters a healthy and balanced lifestyle, personalised teacher-student solid learning, fostering strong teacher-student relationships and a sense of community.

Schools must be cultural exchange centres, connecting students globally through virtual classrooms and exchange programs promoting a deep understanding of diverse cultures and perspectives. Teachers play a pivotal role in the moulding of children into responsible citizens. I can summarise what a classroom should look like with the following analogy.

In a garden, seeds are planted carefully, providing the right conditions for growing. Similarly, in a child-friendly classroom, educators plant the seeds of curiosity and love for learning. The environment is nurturing and conducive to the natural growth of each child's inquisitive mind. Just as plants thrive in sunlight, children flourish in an atmosphere of positive reinforcement.

Recognition, praise, and rewards act as the sunlight that encourages their intellectual and emotional growth. A garden is where diverse flowers bloom, each with a unique colour and fragrance.

A child-friendly classroom cultivates various interests and talents, allowing each child to bloom in their own way. Just as solid roots support plants, supportive relationships between teachers, students, and peers form the foundation of a child-friendly classroom. These roots provide stability and nourishment for emotional and social well-being. Gardens experience different seasons, each contributing to the life cycle of plants.

Classrooms embrace changing "seasons" of learning, incorporating diverse activities, themes, and approaches that keep education dynamic and engaging. Just as a garden yields a harvest, the classroom aims to cultivate students' unique strengths and contributions to a rich harvest of knowledge. Teachers, Parents, and Students, like eager gardeners, participate in the joyous process of reaping the rewards of their learning efforts. In a garden, weeds can hinder the growth of plants. So it is in a child-friendly classroom.

Teachers work to identify and eliminate obstacles to learning, creating a space where children can thrive without unnecessary hindrances. Like fertiliser enhances soil fertility, a positive classroom environment acts as the nourishment that fuels a child's academic and personal growth. Encouraging positivity and mutual respect creates a fertile ground for learning. A diverse garden is visually appealing and ecologically rich. Similarly, a child-friendly classroom celebrates diversity, recognising each student's strengths and contributions and creating a vibrant and inclusive learning community.

REFLECTION - Food for thought!

Word Association: List 5 words that come to your mind when hearing the word, school? (Building, books, admin, teachers, work, students, learning, break, competitions, exams.)

If the school is the body, then the admin, buildings and rules are the bones, and the people (teachers, students and others) are the flesh and blood.

So, can we say that the School is a Community, Place of Work, Place of Learning, Sharing and Conscious Engagement… a mini version of the play of life with everyone involved playing their role?

If yes, can we say that the lead of each person’s role in the school is, in some ways, in their hands by how they fulfil their role?

How does that make you feel? (Liberated? Renewed? Burdened? Responsible? Afraid? Excited? Curious?)

Courage and Patience - Guneet Kaur

Courage
means facing one's fears. It is essential in all spheres of life and leads to a change in oneself, making one stronger. Sometimes one has to get out of one's comfort zone and adjust to a new environment. This, too, is courage. Being honest and believing in one's honesty is also courageous.

Teachers are like mirrors for their students. The students tend to imbibe whatever a teacher speaks through his or her words or actions. Not pretending and being oneself is also courage. A teacher must teach students to accept and be proud of themselves regardless of their weaknesses. They should be cherished for who they are and given the space where they can be more aware of themselves. In no situation should they be afraid or ashamed of accepting the truth about themselves or sharing it with others. Seeking help and shunning one's ego is also courage.

As teachers, we must ensure that the children feel safe with us. They should be able to have faith in us. Simultaneously, they should learn to believe in themselves. A child asking his or her doubt in class, saying, "I didn't understand", in front of the other classmates, is courage.

Teachers need to be there for the students, make them feel safe and teach them to solve their problems themselves. This way, they will be prepared to bravely face life's challenges. However, if the learners make mistakes in solving their issues, their teachers shouldn't punish them. Instead, as adults, they should stand with them and show them the right path.

Courage also reflects in sharing one's experiences with colleagues or children of how one dealt with a situation. This can also help in inspiring them and getting over their fears. Being silently supportive of our co-workers is also courageous.

Patience is being tolerant and calm in handling situations. It means not getting anxious or annoyed too quickly. It does require a lot of courage to be patient. Not complaining, having a positive attitude, and giving time and space to others all come in the arena of patience.

Patience teaches us to have faith and hope that things will get better. Working with patience leads to growth. On the other hand, losing patience can ruin the task at hand. Most of us end up giving up our patience because of the pressure from society, peers, friends or family. However, if we have the courage and the belief in ourselves, we will not lose our cool, take a stand for ourselves and help to bring about a change.

Inaction should not be misunderstood for patience. Moving towards our goal with perseverance and a peaceful mind, accepting failures as stepping stones to success, and having the will to start all over again with the belief that the result will be favourable is patience.

The farmer protest in our country is the world's most non-violent and peaceful fight for human rights. The farmers had immense patience and courage that helped them to withstand all sorts of physical, emotional and mental atrocities. They did not get frustrated and were convinced that their voices would be heard one day.

We often lose our patience when we think we are better than others or deserve much more than others. This attitude leads only to exasperation. Whenever this happens, we should take a step back and introspect. High expectations from ourselves or from others can make us impatient. However, patience helps to increase our power of endurance, persistence and better decision making.

As teachers, we need to be role models of being patient with our students. Being a good and silent listener and helping the children cope with their worries and hassles will help them become more accepting, contented and forbearing. They will learn to shift their focus from a problem to possible solutions without complaining. This will also teach them to be emphatic.

Handling Pressure - Prerna Rathod

Pressure means stress that affects us in different ways.  It also affects a person at work or home.  There are different types of stress like physical stress, emotional stress, psychological stress and behavioural stress. Some of the causes of stress are as follows :

1. When we do non stop work without taking rest then it  leads to physical stress. It causes body ache and headache.
2.  If we take less sleep or stay awake till late night, our eyes become red. Our mind does not get any rest and it can lead to psychological stress.
3. Sometimes, we keep on thinking  or worry on certain matters which affects us both physically and mentally and can lead to stress.
4. Sometimes due to financial crisis or loss of a beloved or unpleasant work  environment can also lead to  stress.

Following steps can be taken to keep away stress:
1. You need to take proper care of yourself, i.e. proper diet and rest.
2. Talk to others to divert your mind from the thing that can cause stress.
3. Do  activities like reading, painting, dancing, playing games, listening music.
4. Do yoga, exercise, meditation daily.

As educators we must make our students understand what is stress, how it is caused and how to deal with it. If stress is not handled properly, then it can lead to dangerous consequences. Each one of us must try to handle stress in a positive way and get it out of our life to lead a happy and stressfree life.

साहस और धैर्य - Medley DGS

Play, Curiosity and Enthusiasm: Kusum Sharma

Play is not only physical activity but also the mental development of any child. when we think of play, it is very easy to think of sports programs that help children develop they're fine motor skills. Play is a very essential activity for each individual to keep fit and happy. play teachers how to lose with good Grace and how to work with and against others. Nowadays children are very much engaged in social media, so they are lacking in outdoor games and physical activities which reduces their mental growth and physical fitness.

It is been noticed, that the child who is involved in sports is more confident in comparison to other children.

Along with sports activity if a child is curious to know about the things around him. Then he will gain extra knowledge of the things around him/her. Curiosity is often described as a natural desire to build knowledge. Curious people win more and more often because they never stop looking for ways to improve.

curiosity and enthusiasm means showing interest in the things that you do and get pleasure from them. It helps a child to engage in more productive activities.  An enthusiastic teacher also spices the class with excitement, enjoyment and engages students to participate and explore.

Mould the Future: Intellectually sharp, mentally alert, spiritually elevated and physically fit children

The effort to acquire human perfections is not only linked to loving support and encouragement, a disciplined environment, and direct study of the Word of God, but also to engagement in the arts and sciences, hard work, the capacity to overcome hardships, and the development of the capacity to serve others.

Education must provide the children with the advantage of every useful kind of knowledge. Let them share in every new, rare and incredible craft of art in realizing own self. It must bring them up to work and strive, and accustom them to hardship. We must teach them to dedicate their lives to matters of great import, and inspire them to undertake studies that will benefit mankind and so the individual’s fulfilment lies in contributing to society. The ability to judge the difference between right and wrong is the self-realization. Spiritual development is that essential element of education which enables the children to realize the social responsibilities and leads a man to become a leader.

To accomplish every task, the physical fitness of children facilitates to synchronize with all other feature like mental steadiness, moral values and regular improvement. Physical fitness enriches the psychological condition. Only physical fitness or mental fitness cannot restore each other as these are two diverse essentials, but both are necessitated to each other. Education through sports and physical activities is the aim of physical education and not only winning matches. The overall development of a child is not merely teaching subjects, playing sports and learning other skills. Physical fitness enhances mental alertness. A child cannot be alert if he is physically unhealthy and alike cannot be physically fit if he is mentally disturbed.

I strongly believe education is an overwhelming need which aims to develop and nurture tomorrow’s leaders intellectually sharp, mentally alert, spiritually elevated and physically fit children.

One day in the public garden I see, on a small patch of grass under some trees, a father and a two-year-old girl. The father is lying down; the little girl runs everywhere. What a joy to run! Suddenly she stops, looks intently at the ground, bends down, picks something up. A twig! A pebble! She stands up, runs again, sees a pigeon, chases it, suddenly stops and looks up into the sunlit trees... Seeing what? – Perhaps a squirrel, perhaps a bird, perhaps just the shape and colours of the leaves in the sun. Then she bends down, finds something else, picks it up and examines. A leaf!! - Another miracle.

Gears, twigs, leaves, little children love the world. That is why they are so good at learning about everything. For it is love, not tricks and techniques of thought that lies at the heart of all true learning. Wonder, why we always try to teach which they don’t like and don’t teach what they love. We teach by our brain without even realizing that learn everything by heart. If we give them access to enough of the world, including our own lives and work in that world, they will see what things are truly important to us and to others. They will make for themselves a better path into that world than we could make for them.

A school is a building that has four walls and a tomorrow inside which aims to mould the future.”
