Thoughtfulness and Understanding - Dolly Pharasi

An important component of thoughtfulness is showing concern.
Every child is young and inexperienced in life, and they need all the lessons they can get it. When a child learns that thoughtfulness is not only a virtue but a practice, they will find ways to create good things and make life better for themselves and everyone else in their lives. The value of thoughtfulness comes in many forms, and teaching a child how to be thoughtful creates a healthy sense of self-esteem and well-being that will make it possible to survive lives with many ups and downs.

All you need to do is to be loving, kind, and compassionate, as well as understanding. If you teach a child about thoughtfulness, you will find more of it in yourself as well.

Tools used in the classroom to inculcate thoughtfulness are:

1. Offer your help
Guiding students when they have a problem and want others to help them.
They should also provide help to resolve situations for others students.

For Example:-
1. When the teacher gives some colouring activity to the kids, some forget
to bring their own colours. The kids who have colours willingly share their colours with them.
2. In the classroom, when some written work is given to the students. Some of them have language problems but to increase their
vocabulary. We give them new words to use in story writing, creative writing and sentence construction.

2. Believe in one another
It’s easy to assume the worst in others, but we should make conscious efforts to believe in one another, which are considered more thoughtful acts.

For example:
In circle time, we should tell moral stories to the students or stories of great personality; they learn to believe in one another through these stories.

3.Observation
To make our students understand that genuine care can only be developed by observing our surroundings, only positive care can be seen in others' attitudes.

Example: - In an empty bag, the teacher can put different objects like sandpaper, soft toys, a piece of wood, a pebble etc. Children will sit in a circle and close their eyes. They will touch and feel the object one by one, and the teacher will ask the question- Which object do you have? What is the shape of the object? How do you feel when you touch the object? This activity will enhance the ability to observe.

To be understanding towards the world around you, you need to
develop empathy.

To be understanding towards the world around you, you need to develop empathy. Empathy is a foundation for acting ethically, having good relationships of many kinds, loving well, and professional success. And it’s key to preventing bullying and many other forms of cruelty in the world around you.
The attachments are key to adopting our values and behaviour; therefore, empathizing with our children takes many forms, including tuning in to their physical and emotional needs, understanding and respecting their individual personalities.

Activity 1: Feelings Collage
This is a fun activity to try in any classroom, especially if some of your students are especially shy and might have difficulty acting out emotions in front of the class. Bring a big stack of magazines to class and give each student's art supplies: poster board or construction paper, scissors, glue sticks.
➢ Invite your students to cut pictures of people expressing any kind of feeling, and instruct them to use these images to build a “feelings collage.” Hand out markers to label each picture in their collage with a feeling word; then, take turns explaining their collages and feeling labels to the group.
➢ Encourage your students to elaborate on the details of what they noted regarding the person’s facial expression, body language, or the context of the photo or illustration.

Activity 2: Group Circle
Another good activity to encourage empathy is the Group Circle. Choose a “talking piece” is an object passed around and signals that the holder has exclusive speaking rights. Tell your students that only one person may talk at a time in the Group Circle, and everyone else must listen quietly and respectfully.
➢ First, have the students pass the talking piece. This is a good opportunity for everyone to practice holding and passing the talking piece and an opportunity for students to say a few quick words about how they are feeling or what is on their minds.
➢ Introduce a topic or ask a question that you would like the circle to respond to. However, after you have sparked the conversation, make sure to take your seat in the circle and become a member rather than a leader.
➢ The Group Circle exercise helps students relate to one another, and it can encourage students to accept and share feelings that may be difficult to talk about.

Thoughtfulness and understanding - Neelam Bhardwaj

Thoughtfulness

Thoughtfulness is acting with thought and good sense. An important component of thoughtfulness is showing concern.

The 3 tools that can be used in the classroom to inculcate thoughtfulness about the right things among the students.

1. Be a helping hand

Being helpful means doing all it takes to care for others, be it your family, friends or community. It is a gesture of showing concern out of kindness. There are many ways children can be taught to be helpful. Children repeat words and actions they admire hence the best way to teach students to be helpful is by example. Children want to be involved. The teacher should start encouraging them to find ways to help others. Get along with the students and ask them to help in rearranging the tables and chairs, put up the charts in the classroom, emptying the dustbins, and put them in proper places. Do some activities in the classroom to stimulate creativity and get everyone involved in active ways. The children learn and begin to help others.

2. Celebration of togetherness

We live in a country with diversity. Students come from different religious backgrounds and cultures. Every culture and religion has its own faiths and beliefs, and the children should be taught to respect every religion. The best way to learn about other cultures is by celebrating the festivals together. Celebrating or talking about other religions allows the students to appreciate and respect others' faith. It is the best way to make them understand the fact that all religions spread peace and respect. Students come together to celebrate the festivals in the school. In this way, they become thoughtful and kind towards everyone without any kind of discrimination.

3. Get to know each other

Every student is different. Still, they all are equal in the eyes of a teacher. Children come from different backgrounds. To understand the students better, a teacher needs to spend individual time and communicate with the students. It helps to develop an awareness of students' challenges and needs. In this way, a teacher can help the students. When the teacher and the students have a better understanding, they build trust. Every individual feels genuinely valued for who they are and what they contribute as a unique individual.

Understanding

Understanding is the agreement of opinions or feelings. It's the adjustment of differences. To be understanding towards the world around you, you need to develop empathy.

Here is one of the many classroom activities that can be performed to encourage empathy among the students.

Circle Time

Kindness is a natural human response that doesn't need much encouragement. However, it is something that should be practised regularly. Kindness and empathy can be taught in the classroom.

Circle time is one of the activities that can be conducted in the classroom to encourage understanding of the world to the children.

This activity can be performed in the classroom or outside on the ground. Ask the students to sit in a circle. Every child should have a paper and pen where they have to write.

Someone you helped on  that day

Somebody helped you on that day.

It can be any big or small act of help. After writing, they all will share about it in the circle one by one. Other students must listen quietly. As everyone shares their incidents, they can relate them to one another and experience different emotions. They understand what it feels like to help someone and how it feels when someone helps you in need.  In the end, the children will come to the centre one by one and speak out about anyone emotion they felt or understood during the session and all those who felt the same emotion will raise their hands.

This activity is a good way to encourage understanding and kindness among the students. Sharing nice and positive things with others makes them feel heard and affirmed by others.

Unity and Caring - Achievers JMMS

Listen to the story of unity and caring, where the children learn that being united and together, helps them to achieve everything in their life.

Unity is being together or in an agreement. It is the state of being united.  When we work together, we can achieve the things that we cannot achieve by being single.

Caring is showing kindness and concern for others. A caring person gives emotional support to the people around him.

Thoughtfulness and Understanding - Swabhi Parmar

Being kind and thoughtful means making ourselves aware of the needs and feelings of others and
then taking action to help them. It means taking the time to stop thinking about ourselves, to put the spotlight on somebody else's needs. Sometimes we can't do anything to solve somebody's particular problem but just the act of showing concern and compassion can help to comfort them and make a difference. For example, your friend might be worried or sad about something that is happening at home. Even though you cannot solve that problem you can spend some time listening to your friend's worries and supporting them as much as possible. This is pure thoughtfulness. This also means thinking for others before yourself.

When a friend gets sick or a local family falls on hard times, grown-ups should know what to do. They should send flowers, make cards for them, cook their favourite dishes to cheer their mood. We must get our kids involved in these projects. They will find out how good it feels to brighten someone's day. This is also a great opportunity to talk about being on the other side of the good-karma equation—ask them whether they remember when someone did something nice for them and how it made them feel. Being thoughtful not only means taking care of someone but it is also taking care and being sensitive towards the environment and nature. Thoughtfulness stands on the foundation of understanding. If you understand someone or something then the half problem is solved immediately.

Understanding is one of the most important values as it lays a strong foundation of every value like patience, tolerance, hope, friendship, cooperation, love etc. In my thoughts understanding someone is an art and that art comes from love, emotions and strong relationships. When you know yourself well you know others well and when you know others well then you know yourself well. This is a fact that if the person is in a tough situation and having the same emotional condition like us, we can understand that person's situation completely and then when he or she helps us to solve the problem then it creates a new relationship bond and a very good level of understanding. It makes every relationship peaceful and happy while lack of understanding leads to confusions and doubts. Both the values i.e; Thoughtfulness and Understanding has the power to change the world of every possible living being on this planet. So we should be thoughtful and understand everybody to create a better world.

Thoughtfulness and Understanding - Nikita Rajpurohit

Thoughtfulness simply means stop thinking about ourselves (stop being selfish for a moment) and
then give that time to understand others. Doesn't matter if we could help them out or not but still act of showing concern and compassion can help a lot to comfort the other person. Whenever we try to understand another person, it's necessary to put our feet in their shoes and then analyse the situation because until and unless we don't visualize the situation from the other person's point of view, we might not be so good with our judgement sometimes. Kind thoughts reflect a kind person, for example, if you see a blind man crossing a road, put an effort to help him reach the other end. It's for sure that the blind man might be enough capable to judge the road and cross it safely but still what's bad in helping them to reach the other end safely

Understanding someone is an art and that art comes from love, emotions and strong relationship bonds. Different people see the world from different perspectives. In our society, there will always be misunderstandings between people and those people's reactions will differ. Some choose to groan and even get angry about the way that themselves or others are treated while some decide to try and do something about it. Understanding is very important for, building trusting, and having open relationships.  Working with your students to develop their understanding of others is a crucial aspect of empathy. Teach them to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Here are simple steps for putting yourself in someone else’s shoes:

1. Think about what that person has going on in his or her life. If you don’t know, ask.
2. Think about how you would act if you were in that specific situation.
3. Talk to the person about the situation and find out why he or she handled it in that way.
4. Listen to them before judging.
To live a healthy life and maintain strong relationships, being thoughtful and understanding is very essential.

World Population Day - Kusum Sharma

The World Population Day 2019 is a United Nations' initiative. It is celebrated on the 11th of
July every year. This day aims at spreading awareness about the increasing world population and the importance of reproductive health.

It is also the celebration of awareness; one which tries to get people to know and learn about population issues. Population issues include things like family planning, human rights, right to health, the baby's health, gender equality, child marriage, use of contraceptives, sex education, knowledge about the sexually transmitted diseases, etc. Increase in Population should be one of the leading concerns for countries like India and China. World Population Day 2018 observes the theme, "Family planning is a human right." For the first time, this day was celebrated in the year 1989.

The Governing Council of the United Nations' Development Program initiated this due to the population toll in the year 1987. It had already crossed the 5 billion. So the exploding world population had indeed become a serious cause of concern. Therefore, this day was initiated to combat the issue of the growing population and raise awareness among the public about the same. World Population Day, on a vast scale, focuses on the need and importance of controlling the increasing world population.

Hope and Friendship - Ajay Vijayvargi

In today's world, each one of us comes across situations when we need some help or support, which person/persons come to your mind first – definitely your FRIENDS who are hope in the day. A Friend in need is a friend indeed.

Each one of us has friends, but it is difficult to have/find true friends. Each one of us have a different definition of a friend, let us some of them – he is a person who understands us, makes us feel good, trustworthy, not judgmental, always keep in touch, listen to us when the world has left us, keeps communication uninterrupted and clear, accept you like yourself. Though it is difficult to find all qualities in a single person even if he has few of these in him, he will be our friend - our Hope in life. Whenever an incident happens to show our solidarity and our concern we light candles (Nirbhaya case) similarly when we light diyas on Diwali we do it to show our hope to remove the darkness of ignorance, fear etc. Hope can be our map to success, making our journey easier, helping us to cope up with stresses, it will help us to ignore hardships and sufferings, and give us inspiration, motivation and a mindset to achieve our goals. It helps us in making our lives better and is the essence of life. One we choose hope everything is possible, it is a belief that things will be alright and a small ray of hope helps us to fight immense darkness. Unity & Caring - Super7 BHIS

UNITY IS STRENGTH
Unity is a significant feature of human life. Without unity, we cannot go through a single day. Unity has a great value in every walk of life. Unity is essential to save any country and its countrymen.  People can enjoy a tension free life if they are united with the values and outlook of society. It is thus said, 'United we stand, divided we fall’. It is true that we can break a single stick easily. On the other hand, breaking a bundle of sticks is really difficult or impossible.

When work is done in a unified manner for obtaining a common goal, the participants develop a special relationship among themselves - they demonstrate unity. A pertinent example will be our group - Super7.  Many of us joined as complete strangers but as the sessions move forward we are working together and moving towards the common goal of internalising the necessary values.

Once there was a CCA class for basketball. A new coach had joined the school on that day and it was his first class. There is a child in my class with special needs and she had opted for basketball. For some reason, she wasn’t able to communicate with the coach what she wanted. She felt shy to talk to a coach about her own needs. She had a specific problem and wanted to take rest on that day. The other children in my class came together leaving their match and conveyed to the coach about the child’s need. The coach then understood and the smile on the child’s face was commendable. This shows there is unity in the whole class and the care was also not missed for each other. Caring for and helping other people is driven by deep value-based motivations and concerns to make a positive and practical difference to the lives of other people. Caring can take many forms. At home, it might involve being a parent or looking after an elderly, sick, disabled or needy member of the family. Outside the family it might involve voluntary work in all sorts of organisations that help particular groups of people, for example, befriending the elderly, providing home help or gardening, tutoring school children etc.

Caring allows an individual to connect with others, respecting human dignity and responding with compassion. Actively listening and being emotionally present, as well as providing support for important aspects of caring relationships. I had one special child in my class. He was a mild autistic child. A shadow teacher always accompanied him. We wanted him to become independent. He used to do most things independently but whenever he wanted to go to the washroom he needed shadow teacher’s support. We wanted to remove his anxiety so we had decided that we will try to send him alone to the washroom. We will just keep an eye on him. So one day I purposely sent the shadow teacher out from the class. During recess, I asked him to go to the washroom. He was searching for his teacher, but I forced him to go alone. Suddenly Kewal, one boy from the class came to me and said, “Teacher I will go with him, How would he go alone’’? All other students were also ready to go with him but no one wanted him to go alone. I was surprised and felt proud that whatever we taught them in the class about helping and caring for others, they are following that. I could see emotional attachment and caring nature in all the children. Care or concern automatically become an inherent part of the teaching-learning process. Teachers continue to try endlessly only because they care. Students listen to us because they can feel our concern. As a teacher, it's our responsibility not only to address the academic need of a child but also to help him enhance his overall personality. To be able to do so, teachers need to know their learners well which can be achieved through patient listening. Teachers need to be good listeners and sharp observers. It is also important for teachers to be able to demonstrate the feeling of compassion. We need to treat each child with respect and provide constructive criticism. Even while reprimanding a child, we need to demonstrate our concern. Only then will a child realize the mistake and strive to mend his ways. Care is generated by the way we act toward every student, in class. Care comes when a student sees you treat a difficult student with compassion, courtesy and kindness - particularly at the most difficult of times. Teachers genuinely care about their students as they come into the classroom with very different circumstances. Knowing about those will help make the learning experience much more successful. Unity in a class gives students courage, power and strength. We can see unity in the classroom when students work together in order to complete the target, some students create groups so that they can help each other in studies as unity always supports and helps. If students work alone there can be chances that people get defeated, but if they work as a team chances of success increases as they come up with creativity.

Unity & Caring - Harmony BHIS

Unwavering Unity
Human values are necessities in today's society. They are the features that guide people to take into account the human element when one interacts with the other person.

Unity creates the experience of cooperation, increases enthusiasm for the task and makes the atmosphere empowering. When children unite together to achieve a single goal a sense of socialism arises, and thus the beginning of the journey towards 'Caring'.

"How was your day at school Riya?" asked Riya's mom, when they both were heading home back from school, on a Monday afternoon.
"It was great Mom" responded six-year-old Riya. "Mother I want to tell you what happened in school today," said Riya in a muffled voice while entering her home. She kept her bag aside and started narrating "Mom today we played a game in school, wherein our teacher divided our class into two teams. She had spread various coloured balls on the floor and asked us to pick up the ball one at a time and put it into the corresponding coloured boxes. We all started with great enthusiasm. Both the teams were doing well. The teacher kept cheering for both the teams. We were all enjoying the activity to the fullest when suddenly....." Riya gave a pause to her words.
Her worried mother asked "Yes, darling …..Then what? "
Riya sighed and continued “And I suddenly fell down mom. The teacher came running towards me and picked me up in her arms. She made me sit on a chair. The ancillary brought the First Aid Kit and teacher applied it on my knee, but luckily I didn't hurt myself much. But Mom you know what the moment I fell down, all my teammates stopped the game and came running to me."
"That's nice of them Riya," said her mom to make her feel good.
"Yes Mom, definitely!!!" replied Riya. "But the best I felt was when I saw the other team that was just one step away from victory left the game and came running to check on me."
"That's amazing darling. This is how caring your friends are for you. This shows you all unitedly care for each other. You should always be thankful for such wonderful friends around you." exclaimed Riya's mom. "To care for others is to show empathy, to show concern. Your friends were concerned about you and that is why they didn't even bother about their victory and ran to check on you. Kind-hearted people always care for others and this gesture makes the other person feel good. So always remember to be kind to others. A kind heart is all about giving happiness to others. Treat others the way you want to be treated and try to spread the joy of care and love all around" added Riya's mom.

Riya felt a gush of delight in her heart and was thankful for such wonderful friends in her life.

The moment we adopt a sense of caring for others it brings us inner strength and greater self-confidence. Caring for others helps us sustain our peace of mind.

A Peaceful Home - Sharmila Vijayvargi

When children are small, the parent shows concern, care and love for them. When parents are old, children show love, care and concern for them. As a result, everybody feels, "Someone else is concerned about me, someone is reaching out to me, someone is caring for me and someone loves me." It is a love relationship. Where a love relationship exists, peace also exists.

Of all, our parents are most dear to us. They give us our very life and we owe our life to them.  We are on this earth because of their love. We now realise how helpless were we during our childhood and all we are today is much because of our parents' sacrifice. We can't even count how many sacrifices they must have made for us! Sacrifice is love!! Many of us have achieved success in our lives because of our parent’s untiring work and sacrifice. They mould our character. Whatever we have and possess, it is because of them.

When they have done so much for us, love, respect and obedience are our duties towards our parents. We should try and repay whatever they do/have done for us with dedication and love. Our love must be shown in action and not words. Parents should be proud of our actions and behaviour. Like every human is too respected because of his or her human dignity and every elder is to be respected because of his or her age wisdom and experience similarly we ought to respect our dear parents in all places and at all times.

Parents wish nothing but our good. To honour our father and mother also means fulfilling their wishes. Thus, it is always a two-way street. Show care, concern and love to everyone at home. Let everyone feel that peace is a feeling one gets within oneself when one cares for someone.

Caring - Manisha Deora

What is caring? Caring is when you do a good deed for someone because it is the right thing to do. Caring is one of the most important values of our life. Caring can be learned by all human beings. Caring is to look after or concern for someone. In our school also students take care of each other. They help each other in studies, sharing things and even share their lunch. We also care for the people with whom we are attached. For example - Our vegetables grow well in our school garden because we water them and do the weeding. You need to give the care to receive the same. If we care for someone they may feel happy or feel special. Without a sense of caring, there will be no sense of community.

Caring about the people, things, life is an act of maturity. Caring people are eager to provide encouragement and support when needed most. We can tell our children to look after someone who is new in the class who doesn't speak English. We care for our school so it is a great place to learn.

It's important to care for everyone even if it's not easy sometimes. This value can help the children to be kind to others and respect themselves as well as others. When you care for someone, you make a difference in the world with kindness. If you really like someone and care about them, you can survive many difficulties.

Caring is supporting people as they go through tough times. Caring is helping others in time of needs. The world will be a better place if we care for one another.

Happiness and Tolerance - Optimizers SHS

Nurturing the plant of Happiness

This is a story of a girl named Pallavi who had to give up her freedom leading her life completely by herself. She was sent to the boarding school against her wish for which she had become aggressive, rude, disrespectful and impolite. She didn't find happiness in anything around her as she faced a lot of difficulties to adjust in the boarding environment.

We as teachers faced a lot of challenges to convince her to be happy. There were moments where things were difficult to tolerate as she refused to accept any help given to her. She completely refused to follow the rules and regulations of the school. Being rude and arrogant girl she didn't want to listen to anyone. We were compelled to tolerate all her misbehaviour.

Secondly, we made her make buddy friends for her to get more involved in all the curricular and co-curricular activities. She lacked the motherly love and affection which we imparted towards her.

Gradually, we could see the changes in her behaviour she started accepting her friends, teachers and the boarding culture. It was a tough journey but with all the hard efforts being tolerant and patient. We were able to make her a 'HAPPY CHILD'.
